Charles Miner Harrell, Jr., 50, died peacefully in his sleep as a result of double pneumonia on Friday, March 6, 2026, in Birmingham, AL.

Chip, as he was always called, was born on February 11, 1976, in Pensacola, FL. He was the first of three sons of Jeannie and Miner Harrell, and the first grandchild of Frances and John Harrell and Josephine and Eugene Smith, all of Pensacola.

He grew up with his brothers, Daniel and Frank, and many friends in Cordova Park, with summers on Perdido Key. He was much loved for his entire life by his friends and especially his family, including his seven cousins.

Chip was a graduate of B.T. Washington High School; Washington and Lee University where he was an SAE, graduated magna cum laude and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa; and the University of Virgina School of Law. His legal career focused on corporate and securities law, either with law firms or later as the General Counsel of a fast-growing corporation where he spearheaded numerous acquisitions. He was very intelligent and always a hard worker. He enjoyed reading everything, snow skiing, and, most importantly, spending time with his children.

Chip was married to Elizabeth Goings of Birmingham and has two children, Miner (15) and Jane Briggs (13). Although his marriage ended, he and Elizabeth remained good friends and set a good example as to how divorced parents should manage the loving parenting of their children.

As his pastor wrote about him, "Chip will be remembered for his kindness and thoughtful, unique, and brilliant mind. He loved his children fiercely and they loved him. He was a believer and we rejoice that he is in Jesus's loving hands."

Chip is survived by his children, Charles Miner Harrell, III and Jane Briggs Harrell; his brothers, Daniel Harrell (Emily) and Frank Harrell; his parents, Jeannie and Miner Harrell; his former wife, Elizabeth Harrell; his aunts and uncles, Bob and Adele Balink, Billy and Theresa Harrell, and Anne and Dave Jacobi; as well as his niece, nephew, and his cousins.

A Memorial Service will be held 11:00am Thursday, March 12, 2026, at First Presbyterian Church of Pensacola, with a reception following at the Church's Noonan Building. Private family interment will be at Bayview Memorial Park.

Contributions in Chip's memory should be made to the charity of your choice.
