Charles Michael (Mike) Edwards, 76, of Pensacola passed away on Saturday, November 16, 2013. He was born in Flomaton, AL on November 3, 1937 to Charles Sanford Edwards and Helen Townsend Drury. He graduated from Flomaton High School in 1955 and University of Alabama in 1959 with a degree in Aeronautical Engineering. He was a member of Sigma Nu fraternity. In 1961 he entered the United States Air Force and was stationed at Wright Patterson AFB, where he worked on the design for the F105 aircraft. In 1965, he entered flight training at Moody AFB, Valdosta, GA where he trained on the T33 aircraft. He flew the F102 while stationed at Elmendorf AFB in Anchorage, AK and the F105 while stationed at McConnell AFB in Wichita, KS. After retirement Mike's two greatest passions were Bama football and golf. He built his house on Scenic Hills Golf Course and played golf three days a week. Mike is survived by his wife of 54 years, Frances Byrd Edwards; his son, Charles Steven "Steve" Edwards; a sister, Judy Edwards Green of Pensacola; sister-in-law, Marguerite Byrd of Pensacola; nieces, Janet Green Chastang of Bay Minette, AL and Jeana Green Tarziers of Fairhope, AL; nephew, Joel Drury Green of Fairhope, AL and numerous great nieces, nephews and cousins. The family will receive friends beginning at 11:00am Saturday, November 23, 2013 with Memorial services following at 12:30pm at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel. A private burial will be in Flomaton Cemetery, Flomaton, AL. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society in memory of Mike.
