Dr. Charles "Chuck" N. Claytor, 88, of Pensacola died peacefully with his loving and devoted wife of 66 years by his side. He was born January 24, 1925 in Glasgow, VA to Clarence and Blanche Claytor. Chuck met his wife, Jeanne, while he was in flight school at NAS, Pensacola. He enjoyed his time served in the Navy, particularly landing his plane on the aircraft carrier. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from Tulane University and his D.D.S. at the Medical College of Virginia. He practiced dentistry in Pensacola for 52 years. He was an avid golfer (3-4 times a week) for numerous years at Scenic Hills Country Club. Jeanne and Chuck loved the mountains, and for many years had a part-time residence in Boone, NC overlooking the golf course. He was well known for an infectious laugh and was always ready with a joke or funny story. He was a fervent supporter of all of his children and grandchildren's athletic events. He was so proud of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren as they were the light of his life. The world lost an amazing, positive, goodhearted man with an incredible sense of humor. We all look forward to seeing you on the 19th hole one day. Chuck was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters and 4 brothers. He is survived by his wife, Jeanne Claytor of Pensacola; a brother, Talmadge (Marguerite) Claytor of Buena Vista, VA; daughters, Linda Merting (John) of Pensacola Beach, FL, Janet Steele (Steve) of Greenville, SC and Gail Green (Dan) of Pensacola Beach; a son, Mark Claytor of Pensacola; 5 grandchildren, Brian Benfield, Courtney Knox, Shannon Lynch, Savannah and Daniel Green; 3 great grandsons, Baylen Knox, Nolan and Griffin Lynch and many nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at 12:30pm Tuesday, November 26, 2013 with a Memorial service beginning at 1:30pm at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel. Rev. Jack Kale will officiate.
