Charles (Charley) Clifton Owens, 86, passed at the Hospice Residence March 29, 2010. Charles was the son of Eddie Lee Owens and Amy Gertrude Powell, born 1923 in Samson, Al. He was decendent of Holley Owen(s) and Martha Powell from North Carolina about 1825. Charless career included four years (1943-1946) in the U.S. Army " Infantry, Engineering, and Quartermaster Corps, with service in the Philippines (Manila area). After discharge from the U.S. Army, he worked for the Navy, Naval Air Station, Pensacola Supply for twenty years (1946-1966). In 1956, he completed Supply Management Courses at the University of Berkley, Ca. From 1966-1981 he worked as a Management Analyst in the Management Office, NAS, Pensacola, retiring in Dec. 1981. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Ronald Scott (Scotty) Owens and his first wife Charlyne Joy Smith Owens of Pensacola and second wife Juanita Mae Walters Carney Owens of Thomasville, Ga. He is survived by his son Charles Clifton (Clif) Owens II (Emmalyn) and two granddaughters; Kimberly K. Caputo (John) and a great"granddaughter Lyndsey E. Caputo of Rancho Santa Margarita, Ca., and Karen N. Johnson (Dale) and a great-grandson Nathanael Christian Johnson of Perdido, Al. He is also survived by a sister Thelma I. Jordan of Somerville, Al.; two brothers William T. Owens (Marjorie) and Adrian B. Owens (Barbara) of Pensacola, and one brother Durell L. Owens (Linda) of Monroeville, Al. Services will be held at Cokesbury United Methodist Church, 9th Ave. Campus, where Charley was a very active member, Saturday, April 3, 2010. The Visitation will begin at 1:00 PM and the Celebration of Life will begin at 2:00 PM with all of Cokesburys Pastors participating. A private family graveside service will follow. Pallbearers include Dr. Richard Lewis, Glenn Baxley, John Harold, Ron Heifner, Dale Johnson, and Bob Baum. Honorary Pallbearers Include Cokesburys Stephen Ministries Team and the Emmaus Group.
