He served as an airborne radio operator in the U. S. Army Air Corp during WWII. After the war, he attended the University of Virginia where he studied liberal arts, business and monkey business with his Theta Delta Chi fraternity brothers. In 1961, he moved from Virginia to Gulf Breeze, FL and later moved on Bayou Chico in Pensacola. He had a successful 40-year career in the retail independent gasoline industry. His businesses in Pensacola operated under the brand names, Tidelands, Satellite and Virgo. Charlie loved music and singing. As a child he sang with his mother in the church choir. He continued singing in church choirs for much of his adult life. He also sang bass in the Pensacola chapter of the Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barbershop Quartet Singing in America (SPEBSQSA) Chorus. Charlie was an avid hunter and sports fisherman. He was one of the pioneers and early promoters of billfishing out of Pensacola and along the northern coast of the Gulf of Mexico. He shared his love for sports fishing with his family and friends aboard the Viking, Sea Bouy, and Disisit. His passion for fishing led him to become one of the founding members of the Pensacola Big Game Fishing Club. He is preceded in death by his parents; Thomas Pendleton Peyton and Elizabeth Cooke Peyton; his brother, Thomas Pendleton Peyton, Jr.; his sister, Jean Peyton Seeley; as well as a sister-in-law, Rena Luker. Charlie was the ultimate Virginia gentleman. He was a proud patriot and it was recognized when he was awarded the title of Honorary Navy UDT SEAL on Veteran's Day years ago. He lived life to the fullest, loved to laugh and have fun. His legacy of truth, honor, and generosity will live on in all the lives that he touched. Charlie will be profoundly missed by his family and friends. As per his wishes, a celebration of life memorial will be set at a later date in which, at Charlie's request, the Old Crow will flow.
