Obituary

Charles "Pug" Thomas Crabtree, 83, of Pensacola, FL, died Thursday, December 21, 2017, at his home.

Pug was born September 20, 1934, in Bay Minette, AL, to James B. and M. Lurline Heaton Crabtree. He graduated from Catholic High School in 1952, where he played football and basketball. His favorite teacher, who he still talked about today, was Sister Martinez. He attended Pensacola Junior College (Pensacola FL), where he played baseball and basketball, and the University of Southern Mississippi (Hattiesburg, MS), where he was a member of Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity.

Pug was a Vietnam Veteran of the US Army where he earned the National Defense Service Medal, Army of Occupation Medal (Germany), and Good Conduct Medal before his discharge. He was employed at Monsanto for many years before eventually retiring from the US Navy Base (Civil Service) after 26 years of service, where he earned awards for "Civilian of the Quarter" and service awards on many occasions.

Pug was an avid bowler and pool player…both at which he was very good! He won many pool tournaments, bowled in many leagues over the years and had even bowled a perfect game with a score of 300! One of his favorite activities was playing pool and visiting with friends at Bayview Senior Center, where he was still playing weekly at the time of his death.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James & Lurline Crabtree; sister, Evie Mae Ard; brother, James Crabtree and daughter, Terri Lyn Crabtree.

He is survived by his daughter, Monique (Ken) Corley; grandchildren, Nicole, Rainer & Colton Corley and Jace & Brittany Boatwright; nephew, Otto (Diane) Ard & their family; sister-in-law, Babs Crabtree & her family; and many friends.
