Charles Milton Walton of Conyers, GA, was born December 21, 1935, in Lumpkin, GA to Henry Taylor Walton and Mary Allie (Geeslin) Walton. He passed from this life on Friday, March 6, 2026, in Pensacola, FL having reached the age of 90 years, 2 months and 13 days.

He grew up in the house he was born in surrounded by his loving parents, sister and a host of aunts, uncles, and cousins. He always had great stories to share about his family and his adventures growing up in Lumpkin.

After graduating high school, he attended Georgia Southwestern and played on the school baseball team. After he earned his degree, he moved to Atlanta to begin his career with Fulton National Bank which eventually became Bank of America. In his 35+ year career, he rose to the position of Sr. Vice President over Auditing. He performed his military service for six years in the Army National Guard raising to the rank of Staff Sergeant.

When he first moved to Atlanta to start his career, he lived in apartments where he met the love of his life, Velma Louise Minnix. She in turn said that she thought he was handsome in his semi-pro baseball uniform. On February 21, 1959, they married and became a family of four that included Linda Henderson and Alvin (Al) Minnix. In 1961, Charles (Chip) Walton, Jr. was born to complete their family. They built a house and moved to Conyers in 1969 to provide a great home for their family and to have a large vegetable garden.

After Charles retired, he and Velma were able to travel in their RV and enjoy their large and loving family. After the untimely loss of his beloved wife of 40 years, Velma in 1999, he became more involved in volunteer activities to improve his community such as the Lions Club, Meals on Wheels, Habitat for Humanity and church organizations such as the Happy Hearts, Men’s Club, Walton Gang, the Senior Sunday School Class, and others. He always strived to be a generous, patient, caring and loving son, brother, husband, parent, grandparent (Paw Paw), great grandparent, great great grandparent, and great great great grandparent.

Those who knew him will remember him for his infectious smile, great humor, wholehearted love for his family, his deep-rooted faith in Jesus Christ and his unwavering kindness to everyone he met. He left a lasting impact on all who were fortunate to cross his path. We hope that his memory is a blessing and his legacy of love of family and love of Jesus Christ will continue to inspire and uplift us.

He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Velma Walton; and stepdaughter, Linda Henderson.

Survivors include his sister, Harriette Walton; stepson, Alvin (Patricia) Minnix; son, Chip (Susan) Walton; grandchildren, Lisa (Samuel) Blackwell, Greg (Trisha Scott) Henderson, Jeanette (Rob) Minnix, Tyson (Sara) Henderson, Brad Minnix, Charrissa (James) Van Valkenburg, and Matt Walton; great grandchildren, Lasha Henderson, Dustin (Jennifer) Henderson, Landon (Cathy) Blackwell, Bethany (Jacob) Jones Clontz, Ashley (Carter) Webb, Tyler Minnix, Charlie Minnix, Noble Langston, Logan Henderson, Lexus Henderson, Lane Langston, Valya Van Valkenburg, Violet Van Valkenburg, Vaeda Van Valkenburg, Lauren Henderson, Aubree Henderson, and Vincent Van Valkenburg; great great grandchildren, Kailey (Dylan) Gerber, Dalton (Lauren) Ramey, Haidyn Henderson, Grayson Henderson, Layla Blackwell, Ella Grace Henderson, Madelyn Blackwell, Everleigh Blackwell, Grady Henderson, and Sullivan Webb; great great great grandchildren, Huxton Gerber and Averie Henderson; as well as many nieces, nephews and devoted friends.

A service to honor the life of Charles Milton Walton will be held 1:00pm Saturday, March 14, 2026, at Crossroads United Methodist Church, 2460 Highway 138 NE, Conyers, GA 30013, with Rev. Thomas Hall officiating. In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place and an interment ceremony will follow at a later date.
