IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Chris
Brooks
June 13, 1933 – June 13, 2022
On the evening of June 13, 2022, Chris passed away peacefully on his birthday with family by his side. He lived a full life loved by family and friends, admired by his coworkers, and praised for his contributions to the community. Amongst his family Chris was known for his witty jokes and storytelling. A man of grand stature, both in physicality and personality.
Growing up with eight brothers and three sisters in Goodway, AL, Chris spent his days playing football and basketball in his youth. He would go on to marry his high school sweetheart, Eloise, just two days after graduation on May 30, 1953. They celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary this year. After serving two years in the Army's 101 First Airborne Division, Chris went on to attend the University of Alabama and graduated in 1959. Chris moved directly into a position at Chemstrand and became involved with the Credit Union, where he would have a 49-year career culminating in his appointment to the role of Board Emeritus on July 19, 2021. He served as President and CEO for the Credit Union for 11 years. In 2009, Chris received the distinction of being named the "Volunteer of the Year" by the Florida Credit Union League (FCUL).
Throughout his career, Chris was an important advocate for credit unions on the state and national level. He was an active member of the Northwest Chapter of Credit Unions, serving as Chapter President for three years. Additionally, Chris was a Director of the FCUL Board for nine years, serving as Treasurer for seven of those years. He was involved in the Credit Union industry on a national level as a Board Member for the Payment Systems for Credit Unions and the Southeast Marketing Council for the Credit Union Mutual Insurance Society. Chris also lent his time and talents to numerous local organizations.
On Sundays, Chris could be found at church, spreading the word of God and helping his fellow community members. But, on Saturdays in the fall, he was always cheering "Roll Tide" for his Alma. Throughout his life, Chris touched many lives through his generosity, altruism, and kindness.
Chris is survived by his wife, Eloise; their three children, Vicki Brooks, Jerilynn Brooks-MacBeth, Christopher Brooks Jr.; son-in-law Guillermo Herrera; and four grandchildren, Anne Frances, Ron Alyn, Brooks and Ian; and eight great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 2:00pm until the Memorial Service at 3:00pm Saturday, June 18, 2022, at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to Dogwood Park Baptist Church, 3301 Hwy 97, Molino, FL 32577; or Vitas Hospice, 1230 Creighton Rd., Pensacola, FL 32504.
