Obituary

Christine Snyder, 75, of Pace, FL died at home on Tuesday, April 11, 2023.

Christine was born on May 4, 1947, in a hospital in Washington, DC to Edward and Esther Brawand. Her dad Ed had been an Army Air Force combat engineer in WWII and had fought in France, Germany, Italy, and back to Germany. After Christine graduated from high school, instead of the usual pursuit of her friends and peers of being a full-time college student, she opted for the exciting opportunity to work in a branch of the Interior Department (Navy) in the Pentagon at an entry-level position hand-delivering classified written documents to the military admirals and generals, as well as GS 14s and 15s. She truly cherished working in the Pentagon. However, a couple of years later, when she began developing signs of Lupus (aggravated by cold weather), she moved to warmer Orlando to live with a great-aunt. Christine's employment was transferred to the Naval Training Center office staff in Orlando. Then in 1971, she met the future absolute love of her life. He was a young man named John Snyder, who was an entry-level field representative for the financial division of General Motors (GMAC). In April 1972, they were married in Fort Lauderdale. Over the next twenty-six years, GM transferred them back to Orlando, then to Merritt Island (Cape Canaveral area), then to Orlando, then back to Merritt Island, then to Atlanta, then to Tallahassee, then to Chicago, and then to Tulsa. John retired at an executive level with General Motors in 1998. In retirement, they moved to Pace, FL. In 1979, Christine gave birth to a daughter (Shannon) and in 1981 to a son (Joseph Patrick). Both were born in the Cape Canaveral Hospital. In 2013, Christine began symptoms of dementia. She waged a most ongoing, determined, and courageous battle with that terribly cruel disease for over ten years. However, dementia always eventually wins.

Christine is preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Edward Brawand, Jr.

She is survived by her devoted caregiver, loving soulmate, husband of fifty-one years, John Snyder; daughter, Shannon Snyder Elliott (Jeff); son, Joe Snyder (Elizabeth); two granddaughters, Anna Christine Elliott and Emma Snyder; a sister, Jeanne Black (Mike); as well as her dear friend, Maryann Dugger (John's sister).

To her family and close friends' knowledge, Christine never had an enemy. Her inner beauty even exceeded her striking outer beauty. She was of pure heart, gentle soul, and the most genuine Christian that her family and close friends have ever known. Each time, that Christine and John had to relocate geographically (per General Motors' requests), one or more of the neighboring ladies would tell John that it was okay for him to leave town, but that Christine must not move because she was their best friend and their confidant. Christine's life on this earth could best be summarized by saying, if there is such a thing as an Earth Angel, she definitely was one.
