Charles “Chuck” Stewart Williams, Jr., 86, passed away after a brief illness on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, at Ascension Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola, FL.
A native of Pensacola, Charles was a graduate of Catholic High in 1958 and of Florida State University in 1961. He served as an officer in the Air Force as a navigator in Sacramento, CA and West Point, NY and raised his growing family in those places with his wife, Joanna. He returned to Florida and completed law school at Florida State in 1973. He had a rich experience practicing law in Florida for over 35 years: as a federal public defender, in private practice, and concluding his career in the Office of the State Attorney, First Judicial Circuit. He also served as a reservist in the US Air Force Judge Advocate General’s Corps, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel.
He loved baseball and was an accomplished player himself; he played first base for the Pensacola all-star team when it traveled to play in the Babe Ruth World Series in Portland, OR in 1956. Charles turned down an offer to play minor league baseball to pursue his education and to become a lawyer as his mother dearly wished him to be. He was an avid golfer, a friend to all he met, and a devoted husband to Joanna for 52 years until she passed in 2016.
His life in retirement was full of friends new and old, especially his neighbors at the Azalea Trace. He married Sue Gay in 2025 after many years of devoted companionship and happiness.
Charles was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Charles and Ann.
Survivors include his wife, Sue Williams of Pensacola, FL; his daughter, Karen (Terry) Tinter and grandchildren, Nathan of Melbourne, FL, Joseph (Lisa) Tinter; great-granddaughter, Roxanne of Lilburn, GA, Ariel (Blake Watson) Tinter of Seattle, WA; his daughter, Diana of Pensacola, FL; his son, Robert and grandchildren, Finnegan and Beckett of Austin, TX; his daughter, Beth (Matthew Hayes) Williams and grandchildren, Violet and Cordelia of Palo Alto, CA; his sister, Marilyn (Don) Justice, and their son, Randy of Pace, FL.
The funeral mass will be held at 11:30am Saturday, October 31, 2026, at Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church, with Bishop Martin Holley celebrant.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Charles’ memory to Heavenly Blessings Ministries Shelter, 1614 N. “T” St., Pensacola, FL 32505.
