Claire Stevenson Lergenmiller, 85, of Pensacola, FL passed away Tuesday, May 12, 2020.

She was born on May 13, 1934, in Greenwich, CT. She was the daughter of Samuel B. Stevenson and Anne Elizabeth Gourley Stevenson of Old Greenwich, CT. Claire grew up in Old Greenwich and attended high school at the Mary A. Burnham School in Northampton, MA.

A graduate of Cornell University (B.A. Economics 1956 and M.S. Elementary Education 1958), Claire had a lifelong interest in education. While living in Atlanta with her late husband, John Joseph Lergenmiller, Jr., she became an Instructor (and later Administrator) at the First Montessori School of Atlanta (1968-1980).

In 1984, John Lergenmiller retired to Pensacola, where Claire continued her career. She earned an M.A. in Reading Education from UWF in 1987 and worked as Supervisor of the Reading Lab at Pensacola State College (then PJC) from 1988-1998.

Claire was an active member of both St. Paul Catholic Church and Cathedral of the Sacred Heart.

She is survived by her two daughters and son-in-law, Louise Lergenmiller of Pensacola and Frances Benjamin (Chris) of Staunton, VA.

Private Services will be held, and burial will follow at Barrancas National Cemetery.
