Obituary

Clarita Sevilla Sison Bernas was born on August 12, 1935, to the late Amado Sison Sr and Ismaela Sevilla Sison. She was born and raised in the Philippines and resided in the Santa Ana District, Manila, Philippines. She graduated from Philippine Normal College with a Bachelor's Degree in 1958. She worked in the Philippine Central Post Office for one year and after passing her school board exam, she began teaching Home Economics in Santa Ana High School, where she was also a substitute teacher. She excelled as a substitute teacher at the high school, in all the different subject areas and was encouraged to pursue a higher degree. She was accepted and attended Manuel L. Quezon University for a Master's Degree in School Counseling. While in the Master's Program, she taught at Santa Ana Elementary School and found her passion teaching younger students.

Growing up in Manila, she spent many of her summer vacations with her step mother's family in Alaminos, Pangasinan, and this is where she would later meet her future husband, Licerio. They were married in 1962 which started her journey as a Navy wife raising their three children from duty station to duty station along the US East Coast and overseas to Manama, Bahrain. While her husband was away on sea duty her individual strength of character and trust in God made sure her children were successful individually and together they found success as a Navy Family.

She was a devout Roman Catholic and attended mass every Sunday. She was active with the local duty station Parish and volunteered to teach Sunday Catechism Class. She was also very active with the Filipino community in the many locations. She volunteered to participate and teach Filipino Folk & Cultural Dancing. She and her husband were active in the different Filipino Organizations and were officers/leaders and attended the many social events associated with the groups. While active in the Church and Filipino Community, she held different jobs in support of her family after her children began attending elementary school. She was a Private Grade School Teacher, Public School Substitute Teacher, Seamstress, Retail Store Department Manager, on base Pre-School Teacher, Pre-School Program Director, and Child Care Center Director/Teacher. She had an affinity to teach students and they loved her for it.

She loved teaching, cooking, reading her prayer books, traveling, fishing, pets, social activities, music, and dance. She was a wonderful wife, mother and Lola. She loved her whole family, wanting only the best for them.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Amado Sison Sr and Ismaela Sevilla Sison; her sister Josefina Sison Umayam; and her brothers Bienvenido Sison and Amado Sison Jr.
