IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Corry Raymond
Dickson
November 18, 1923 – November 1, 2016
Corry Raymond Dickson, 92, passed from this earthly life on Tuesday, November 1, 2016 in Findlay, OH. He was a proud veteran of WWII and a resident of Pensacola for over 82 years. He was born in Muscogee, FL on November 18, 1923.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Lena Davis Dickson; his parents, Sidney and Minnie Mae Dickson; his brother, Sidney Dickson, Jr. and his cousin, Ben Morris.
He is survived by his son, Gordon Dickson (Harriet) of Findlay, OH; his daughter, Janet Dickson Nelson of Birmingham, AL and his sister, Margaret Dickson Farage (Don) of Pikeville, TN; six grandchildren, Stephen Dickson (Amanda) of Morrow, OH, David Dickson, Anna Dickson and Joseph Dickson all of Findlay OH, Lauren Nelson and Lindsey Nelson of Birmingham, AL; three great grandchildren; brother-in-law, Swede Danielson, Pensacola, FL; sister-in-law, Louise Davis, Pensacola and many much loved nieces and nephews. He deeply appreciated his nephew, Ray Danielson, who was a great help to him as his health began to deteriorate.
He grew up attending Gadsden St. United Methodist Church. Later his family was among the charter members of St. Mark United Methodist Church where he served on the Official Board. Beginning in 1975, he became a member of Olive Baptist Church. He enjoyed serving as a deacon and member of the counting committee for several years. He enjoyed his Sunday school class when he was in good health, and he greatly enjoyed his friends who shared his passion for Canasta.
He attended Pensacola High School before joining the Navy in 1941, shortly before the beginning of WWII. He served as an aircraft mechanic as well as working on beach crews and protecting supply lines. His service took him across the US for training as well as to distant locations such as Trinidad and Saipan. He had a lifelong love of airplanes and his aircraft work continued in Civil Service at Bainbridge, GA, at Fort Rucker in Dothan and at NAS. One of his most talked about moments was his Honor Flight to see the WW II Memorial. Most of his life work was focused around mechanical work. Many friends will remember him from his years in maintenance at the Lamplighter Apartments and post retirement years at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel where he enjoyed reconnecting with so many friends from his youth. He had a true gift for understanding how things worked and a passion for using that knowledge to help others.
Visitation will be held on Sunday afternoon, November 6, 2016 from 2-4pm at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel. Funeral services will be held at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel on Monday, November 7, 2016 at 10:30am. Burial will follow at Barrancas National Cemetery.
