Obituary

CDR Daniel "Dan" Edward Flahiff, Sr., USN (ret.) 86, of Pensacola, FL passed away on Monday, December 27, 2021.

Dan was born in Clyde, OH on July 31, 1935. He graduated from Central Catholic High School in Toledo, OH in 1953. He completed some college courses then enlisted in the U. S. Navy in 1955. During his time of active duty he served on several ships (USS Saratoga, USS Rockville, USS Concord, and the USS Altair) and retired as a Commander, managing Navy Exchange's and Commissary's all over the Panhandle in the State of Florida. He met his beloved wife in 1958 in Portsmouth, VA where they both worked at the Navy Exchange and got married on October 31, 1959. He was married over 62 years to the love of his life. They traveled all over the world and later had children who also had the same pleasure of seeing new countries and cultures. Dan received several medals, two Bronze Stars, and many achievement awards while on active duty. He retired from the U. S. Navy in 1990, committing 35 years of his life to the military. After retiring from the Navy, he opened up his own business called "Color Glo" for the next six years. Then retired again only to drive buses at the Pensacola Airport. When he finally retired he enjoyed playing golf with his buddies and sitting outside with the neighbors drinking wine and telling stories. Dan and Mary enjoyed spending time with their friends from the "Newman Kountry Klub", taking camping trips and mini vacations in their motor home.

Dan especially loved spending time at his church, Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church, where he enjoyed attending mass daily and praying the rosary. He has been a long time member of the Knights of Columbus and enjoyed volunteering as much as he could. Dan loved his family dearly and enjoyed spending time with each and everyone on them.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Howard Joseph and Ruth Evelyn Flahiff. Dan is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Flahiff; son, Daniel Edward Flahiff, Jr. (Julie); daughter, Evelyn Lee Flannigan (Barry); grandchildren, Adrian, Christopher, Alexis and Jasmine; great grandchildren, Hadlee, Nathan, and Braxten all of Pensacola.
