Obituary

Dane Steele, 71, a Pensacola native, passed away on Wednesday, July 20, 2022, after courageously fighting pancreatic cancer.

Dane was born October 29, 1950 and was grateful for every day. Dane had a love and passion for the water and always wanted to be holding a fishing pole. He loved fishing offshore in the Gulf of Mexico, and in his kayak in the Bayou. He spent most of his retired life with his son boating, setting crab traps, hanging out at the beach in the sun, managing construction projects on the side, working on cars, and riding his motorcycle. His absolute favorite activity was riding his motorcycle to the Thunder Beach motorcycle rally in Panama City Beach each year with his motorcycle buddies. He was a lover of all animals and truly enjoyed feeding his hummingbirds and the neighborhood squirrels daily. If Dane wasn't outdoors, he was relaxing in his man cave, watching the "tube". He also enjoyed spending as much time as he could with his two granddaughters who had the honor and privilege of calling him "Poppy". He loved his family and would do anything for them. He was and will always be remembered as a loving husband, father, Poppy, and friend.

Dane was a 1969 graduate of Pensacola High School and later received a degree from Pensacola Junior College. He was in the construction field his entire life and was always so proud of the projects he worked on around town. He was such a calm and patient family man, always putting others' needs above his own. Dane had the most kind and gentle soul and was the easiest person to talk to.

Dane is preceded in death by his parents, Jackson R. Steele and Philomena J. Steele.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Nancy Steele; his son, Shawn Steele; his two granddaughters, Brittany Steele (Little Britches), her fiancé Michael Harrison, and Philomena J. Steele (7); his sister, Victoria Mann and her son, Jackson Mann; sister, Roberta Mathews; as well as many cousins.

Visitation will be held 10:00am until a Funeral Mass to begin at 11:00am Wednesday, July 27, 2022, at St. Paul Catholic Church with Fr. Stephen Olson celebrant. Interment will follow at Bayview Memorial Park.

Active Pallbearers will be Detrick Morris, Marcus Morris, Lorenzo Hollinger, Chris Randolph, Michael Harrison, and Jackson Mann.
