Colonel Daniel James Manix
passed away peacefully at
home in Navarre Beach, FL
in the early morning hours of November 6, 2016,
at the age of
71.
Dan
is survived by
his
loving and devoted wife of nearly 32 years, Belinda Biles Manix of Navarre Beach, FL. They were married in
Nashville, TN
on
December 22, 1984.
Dan
is lovingly remembered by his children, Damien (Shree) Manix, Angie (Julie) Hullett and Jeremy Hullett and his fiancee, Jennifer; his grandchildren, Chase, Devan and Meghan Manix; his brother, Barry (Pam) Manix; his sister-in-law, Patsy Manix; his nephews, Cory and Sean Manix as well as a multitude of other close family and friends.
Dan
is predeceased by
his mother and father, Mathew D. Manix and Josephine L. "Jo" Manix;
his brother, Michael S. Manix, and his son, Cavan Daniel Manix.
Dan was born on April 25, 1945, in Boise, ID. A graduate of
Baraboo High School in Baraboo, Wisconsin
, he
went on to earn degrees
from
the University of Wisconsin-Madison and the University of Southern California. Dan was a highly-decorated veteran who distinguished himself in his service all over the world as a pilot and commander in the United States Air Force for 31 years, retiring in 2000. Near the end of his USAF career, Dan was called upon to command a NATO airlift center responsible for resupply, reconstruction and repatriation of Bosnia and Kosovo. In addition to serving in the Air Force, Dan started Manix & Associates, a medical management consulting firm with his wife, Belinda, in 1988, and served as its President/CEO until his death. In 2001, Dan became the Administrator for Pensacola Pediatrics, a renowned and well-respected medical practice in Pensacola, FL. Passionate about the people and the work at the practice, he reluctantly retired from his post in 2011. Extremely devoted to the practice, Dan continued to consult with the doctors as recently as last week.
He was a vibrant, energetic man who was loved and respected by all who knew him. Dan will always be remembered as a kind, loving, intelligent and thoughtful man devoted to his family and his country. Next to his family, his greatest passions included flying, sailing and traveling, especially to Italy.
Visitation will be held 5-7pm Wednesday, November 9, 2016 at
Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel,
2276 Airport Blvd. in Pensacola, FL.
Funeral Service
will be held 10:30am Thursday, November 10, 2016 at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel,
with
Daniel Biles officiating. Interment
to follow at
Barrancas National Cemetery
,
Naval Air Station, 1 Cemetery Rd., Pensacola, FL at 11:45am with full military honors.
