Obituary

Daniel Richards Wallace went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday, December 6, 2017 at the age of 86, following a short illness.

Dan was born November 30, 1931 in Pensacola, FL, to Joseph A. Wallace and Annie Mai Radcliffe. Except for his military service, and college years, Dan was a lifelong resident of Pensacola, FL.

Dan was never married, and was preceded in death by his parents; a niece, Marsha McIntosh Wallace; a sister, Dorothy Lena Mai Coffman; and his brother, Joseph A. Wallace, Jr.

Survivors include a niece, Linda Cameron Wallace (Roy) Dudley of Pensacola; nephew, Joseph A. (Beverly) Wallace III of Nashville, TN; two grand nieces, Cameron Michelle Dudley (Dan) Sexton of Laurel, MD and Catherine McIntosh Dudley of Richmond, VA; and one grand nephew, Stephen Royce (Fiona) Dudley of Oxford, England; as well as five great-grand nephews and one great-grand niece, John Thomas Sexton, Benjamin Daniel Sexton, and Joseph Wallace Sexton all of Laurel, MD, and Gabriel Stephen Dudley, Oliver James Dudley, and Hope Elise Dudley all of Oxford, England.

Dan served in both the US Navy and the US Air Force during the Korean War conflict, separating from the USAF in 1958. Returning to Florida after the service, Dan graduated from Florida State University where he was an active member of Kappa Sigma fraternity.

After returning to Pensacola, Dan will be most remembered as serving the Parish of Christ Episcopal Church as sexton for almost 20 years.

One of Dan's pastimes was writing poetry, and he was probably best remembered by friends and neighbors alike for his rendering of The Front Porch. Dan's house had a wraparound front porch and for many years he sat on a porch swing greeting neighbors and passersby (many of which became dear friends). He was called by many "the Mayor of Strong Street".

The family wishes to thank Covenant Hospice for their care and compassion during the final days of his life.

Honorary pallbearers are Richard Bellanova, Robert Bellanova, Bill Bjorensen, Corey Sandstrom, Mike Thomas, and Ken Porter.

A memorial service to celebrate Dan's earthly life, and entry into his permanent and eternal home will be held 10:00am Saturday, March 3, 2018 at Christ Episcopal Church, 18 W. Wright St., Pensacola, FL 32501.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Christ Episcopal Church.
