IN LOVING MEMORY OF
David Alan
Blodgett
July 31, 1951 – March 22, 2025
David Alan "Dave" Blodgett, 73, died peacefully on Saturday, March 22, 2025, after a 20-year struggle with Parkinson's Disease. A humble man of abiding faith in God, Dave loved his family, friends, and community. A member of Trinity Presbyterian Church for more than 40 years, Dave served three terms as Elder, leading and participating in fellowship and service activities, among them "Helping Hands" ministry for elderly members, Habitat for Humanity builds, and numerous church "workdays." An accountant and sales representative for several large corporations, Dave was known for his honesty, integrity and wit.
Born in Cincinnati, OH and reared in Lexington, KY Dave excelled at various sports, especially baseball, receiving a baseball scholarship to Auburn University in 1969. At Auburn he was a member of The Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Auburn Lettermen's Club and participated in Auburn's Big Brothers program. Ben Blodgett shared his father's passion for baseball and for years, from T-Ball through college, Dave enjoyed traveling around the country to watch Ben play. Dave coached area youth baseball teams, was President of Pensacola youth baseball leagues and President of the Washington High School Baseball Boosters. When not at the ballpark Dave was most likely on the golf course.
When Parkinson's Disease eventually made golf unrealistic, Dave focused on gardening and outdoor cooking on his Big Green Egg, sharing plants and food with appreciative friends and neighbors. In 2016 the Pensacola Federation of Garden Clubs honored Dave by selecting his garden as one of four gardens featured in their spring Secret Garden Tour. During the last 5 years of his life, however, Dave's greatest joy came from spending time with his grandchildren Mia and Max.
Dave is preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Patricia Hamilton Blodgett and stepmother, Joy Knowles Blodgett.
Survivors include his loving wife of 49 years, Martha Lee Pursley Blodgett; son, Ben Blodgett (Kristin); grandchildren, Mia and Max; brothers, Mike Blodgett (Marianne) and Paul Blodgett (Jamie); his sister, Beth Pogue Barr; brother-in-law, Lloyd Pursley; along with niece, Brandis Blodgett Cashdollar (Brock) and nephews, Bryant Blodgett (Lauren), Stuart Blodgett (Lindsey) and Alex Blodgett (Sydney) and their precious children.
A Celebration of Dave's life will be held 10:00am Monday, March 31, 2025, at Trinity Presbyterian Church, 3400 Bayou Blvd., with a reception following in the Church Parlor. For those who would like to view a livestream of the service, please use this link: https://youtube.com/live/NIL_368qpFc
Dave wanted to thank Hugh Hamilton, long time pastor of Trinity Presbyterian Church, for being not only his confidant but also his golfing, grilling and gardening friend over the years. He also wished to thank Michael, Candace and Shannon for being his boxing trainer, his personal trainer and his special caregiver, respectively. The family thanks the kind and caring staff of People's Hospice and The Blake Memory Care Team for their care and support during the last three months.
In lieu of flowers, plant a flower in Daves' memory or consider a donation to Trinity Presbyterian Church, 3400 Bayou Blvd, Pensacola, FL 32504, Manna Food Pantry, 3030 N. E Street, Pensacola FL 32501 or a charity of your choice.
