David Bruce Smith, 57, of Pensacola, FL died peacefully January 21, 2014. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. David was born August 16, 1956 in Marietta, GA, raised in Atlanta, but always loved Pensacola where his grandparents resided. He kept many of his friends from childhood, such was his loyalty, charm and easy-going nature. He was thoughtful, immensely kind, and completely trustworthy. His uncle once remarked, "If you couldn't get along with David, you couldn't get along with anyone." Truly an old soul with an easy spirit, his nickname was "Old Man Dave". David studied Aeronautic Science at FIT in Melbourne, FL but turned his career to Information Systems Technology working for Booz Allen Hamilton and most recently, Computer Sciences Corporation. He pursued a wide variety of hobbies including boating, saltwater fishing, astronomy, camping, target shooting and travel, especially to the islands. David was at one time a licensed private pilot and most recently enjoyed being an Amateur Radio (HAM) Operator (AK4YU) and a member of ARRL and the DX Century Club. He is survived by his loving wife, Ruth Ellen Wiltshire and his mother, Catherine Hearn Smith (Kit Tate). David was preceded in death by his father, Nick Bruce Smith and his brother, Steven Michael Smith. Visitation will be held on Friday, January 24, 2014 from 6-8pm and a Funeral service held on Saturday, January 25, 2014 at 10am, both from Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel.
