Dr. David Samuel Myers, 75, of Pensacola, FL passed away on Saturday, June 1, 2013. David was born in Quakertown, PA. He graduated from Quakertown High School in 1955 and lettered in baseball and basketball. David continued his education and graduated from West Chester State Teachers College in 1959 where he lettered in baseball and received a BS degree in Education. He continued his education and received a Masters degree in History from Lehigh University in 1961 as well as a PhD from the University of Maryland in 1967. He was an Assistant Professor of Political Science at West Virginia University from 1966-68. He was an Assistant, Associate and Full Professor at the University of West Florida 1968-2003. He was named Professor Emeritus at the University of West Florida in 2003. David was awarded an Outstanding Undergraduate Teaching/Advising award in 1990-91 by the State of Florida. His hobbies included golf, reading, crypto-quotes, crossword puzzles and coaching his son's baseball and football teams. David was heavily involved with competitive swimming in Pensacola as a Timer, Stroke & Turn Judge and Meet Director. He is preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Ruth Myers; sister, Gloria Hanselman and a brother, James Myers. Survivors include his wife, Carolyn of Pensacola; sons, Timothy Myers (Alesa) of Hoover, AL, Dwight Myers (Craig Evans) of Ithaca, NY and Matthew Myers (Emily) of Dunwoody, GA; as well as 3 grandchildren, David, Grace and Sam Myers. Visitation will be held 1:00pm until the Funeral Service to begin at 2:00pm Wednesday, June 5, 2013 at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel with Rev. Paul Douglas Wolfe officiating. Private Family Burial will follow at Bayview Memorial Park.
