Obituary

D. Paul Parks went home to be with our Lord on April 16, 2015 and to join his wife Virginia T. Parks who went home on March 31, 2015. "Poppy" as he was affectionately called by his numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren was born January 10, 1922 in Kewanee, Missouri. He began his career as a teacher after graduating from Southeast Missouri State. He joined the Navy to defend his country during World War II. He flew combat missions in the Pacific theater against the Japanese Imperial Navy and Army as a pilot flying the PBY and also the PB4Y. During flying missions, his crew took photographs of the flag raising at Mount Suribachi. During his final tour with the ROTC unit at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, Paul earned his MBA at night. The degree served him well in his second career as an insurance salesman and real estate broker in Pensacola. Paul was a civic minded person. He was a founding member of Shangri-La Flight #21 of the Order of Daedalians in 1968. He was a member of the Association of Naval Aviation, MOAA. He was also a member of the Suburban West Rotary Club and District Governor for District 6940 in 1993. He is survived by his son, Dr. David P. Parks, Jr. (Angie) of Henderson, NV, daughter Linda P. Reinhardt of Pensacola, step-son, Dr. David C. Wylie, Jr. (Jen) of Cranford, NJ and step-daughter, Katherine W. Drews (Michael) of Jacksonville, FL. Funeral services will be Friday at 11:00 a.m. at St. Christopher's Episcopal Church, 3200 N. 12th Avenue, Pensacola, FL and burial at 12:30 p.m. at Barrancas National Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Linda Parks Reinhardt, Paul Reinhardt, Alyson Parks Benton, Nicole Parks Carson, Dr. David C. Wylie, Michael S. Drews, Esq., Vice Admiral Jerry Unruh and Captain John Stein. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Shangri-La Flight #21, Order of Daedalians, P.O. Box 33310, Pensacola, FL 32508 or Rotary Club - Suburban West Club, P.O. Box 528, Pensacola, FL 32591.
