IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Dawn Deitman
John
December 20, 1934 – April 16, 2021
Dawn Deitman John went to be with her Lord and Savior on April 16, 2021 with her family by her side. Her firm belief in God supported her throughout her life and gave her peace.
Dawn was born in Ranshaw, Pennsylvania on December 20, 1934, daughter of Florence Elenore Shickley and Earl Charles Levi Deitman. She was a graduate of Thomas Jefferson School of Nursing in Philadelphia. She married the love of her life, Joseph Robert John, Jr., in 1955 and he preceded her in death.
She was the much-loved mother of Stephanie John, Joseph R. John III, Alison John, and Jonathan Blaine John (Jennifer). She was an extraordinary mother and grandmother. She will be much missed by her grandchildren: Charles Fancher and Kelsey, Annabelle and Blaine John. Her great grandson is Henry Fancher. She is survived by her sisters Gayle Sandmeyer, Patricia Kroh and Claire Ives.
She was kind, soft-spoken and very much a lady. She was known as "such a sweet lady" by her aides at Azalea Trace. She was a constant presence in the community and in the work of Trinity Presbyterian Church. She was a Stephens Minister and trained others. She volunteered at Sacred Heart Children's Hospital, Habitat for Humanity, the church's Prayer Card ministry and much more.
She was an enthusiastic birder and adored her four grandchildren. She was always moving, always doing for others. We all called her "the Titanium Hummingbird" because she never sat idle.
Her children are especially grateful to their sister, Alison Ann John, who gave exceptional care to our mother during her prolonged final illness and to their brother, Joe John, who was her faithful companion. Special thanks to caregiver Doris Hall.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, April 23rd at 5:30 pm at Trinity Presbyterian Church, 3400 Bayou Blvd., Pensacola with Revs. Brian Yount and Frank Beall to officiate.
In lieu of flowers, please consider the Alzheimer's Association, the Nature Conservancy or the National Audubon Society. Please share your thoughts and memories with the family at the church or through the Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel at: www.harpermorrismemorialchapel.com
