IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Deborah E.
Zagars
May 6, 1954 – May 4, 2024
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Sister, Aunt, and Friend, Debby Zagars, who passed on Saturday, May 4, 2024, at Baptist Hospital in Pensacola, FL. Born on May 6, 1954, Debby lived a life of boundless love, unwavering dedication, and contagious laughter.
Debby was the cherished daughter of Ray and Ellen Argel, both of whom preceded her in death. In addition to her husband, sons, and grandchildren, she is survived by her sister, Judy Pollack, nephew, Bryan, brother, Buddy Argel, sister-in-law, Kary, and nieces, Carissa, Samantha and Sarah. She was a beloved niece and cousin to many.
Central to the story of her life is Ray Zagars, her adoring husband and soulmate. They first met in their hometown Bridgeport, CT at the age of 15, and married seven years later June 18, 1976. Their story, spanning over five decades, exemplifies the Truest Love, and remains an inspiration to all who know them.
Debby leaves behind a legacy of love and compassion through her three sons, Dustin, Michael, and Daniel, and her granddaughters, Aubrey, and Ansley, who affectionately renamed her "Gigi." She was a beacon of strength and support for her family, always putting their needs before her own.
Debby's passion for caring for others extended beyond her immediate family. As a nurse, she dedicated her career to healthcare, touching countless lives with her generosity and unwavering devotion. She continued this dedication into retirement, volunteering at nursing homes and being a friend to any who needed one. Her impact reached far and wide, touching the hearts of any who had the pleasure of her company.
In addition to her nursing career, Debby was a Mary Kay Senior Director, famous for her iconic pink car - a symbol of her commitment to love, people, and hard work.
Debby's life brought her to places she never imagined. From her home state of Connecticut to Massachusetts, to the UK, and eventually to Florida, where she found another love in the Gulf of Mexico.
Through all life changes, Debby's resilience was unparalleled, as she faced and conquered challenges with grace and determination, including a successful battle with cancer a few years ago. She instilled these same values in her sons, teaching them the importance of perseverance and staying true to one's beliefs.
In her final moment, Debby was surrounded by the love of her soulmate and sons. Her devoted husband, Ray spent 12 days by her side in the hospital. Daniel, living in Florida, visited everyday to support his mother and his father. Dustin and Michael traveled 40 hours across the country to be with her one last time. She was sent on with tears of love and gratitude. No sons have ever been as lucky as to have a mom like Debby.
Throughout her life, Debby embodied the values of kindness, positivity, resilience, and friendship. She was a loyal friend, a compassionate listener, and a giving soul who brightened the lives of everyone she encountered. Her infectious smile and hearty laughter will forever echo in our hearts.
As we learn to let go, we take solace in knowing that her spirit will live on in the countless lives she touched. Though she may no longer be with us in body, her love, laughter, and legacy will continue to inspire and comfort for generations to come.
The outpouring of messages from friends and family since her passing has forever touched the hearts of those who loved her most. We are overwhelmed by the memories and heartfelt condolences. Debby's departure leaves a void in our hearts, but only to remind us how much she loved, and how much she was loved.
A private family ceremony will be held prior to her cremation where messages, memories, and prayers from friends and family will be read. As being a special place to Debby and Ray, a celebration of Debby's life and a scattering of her ashes will be held in Aruba at a time to be determined.
Deborah Zagars lived well; she loved well. And she will never be forgotten.
