Dorothy "Dee" Hammond, a beloved daughter, sister, aunt, and friend, departed from this world on Monday, May 6, 2024, leaving behind cherished memories and a legacy of love.
She was born on July 20, 1942, in Memphis, TN, and her journey through life was marked by compassion, adventure, and unwavering devotion to her family. Dee grew up in Orlando and Miami, FL. She graduated high school in Miami and after moving to San Jose, CA she attended Evergreen Valley College. For over 30 years, Dee called San Jose, CA, her home, where she dedicated herself to her profession as a telecommunications operator at AT&T. In 1998, she bid farewell to her professional endeavors and embarked on a new chapter of her life in Pensacola, FL, where she embraced retirement with open arms and enjoyed the love of her great nephews Heath and Brett.
Dee had a heart as vast as the oceans she loved to explore. Her nieces and nephews were the light of her life, and she took immense pride in watching them grow and flourish. Her gentle spirit, overflowing with sweetness, love, and generosity, created a welcoming haven for all who knew her.
Dee found joy in exploring the world around her. From the rolling hills of England to the ancient ruins of Peru, she embarked on countless journeys, each one adding a new chapter to her remarkable story. Her adventures knew no bounds, from hiking the breathtaking trails of Machu Picchu to sky diving through the skies in Colorado, she lived life to the fullest.
Dee is preceded in death by her loving parents, Dorothy and Mark Hammond; her sister, Marcia Hammond; her brother, Mark "Chip" Hammond; and her niece, Missy Horton.
Dee is survived by her devoted sister, Barbara Kaye Horton; her brother, David "Sandy" Hammond and his wife, Delinda; her sister, Rachel Greer; her nieces and nephews, Chris Hammond, Elizabeth Hammond, Clint Horton, Kimberly Kent, Haley Annable, Tom Hammond, and Stacy Cantrell. While she has bid farewell to her earthly journey, she will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved her dearly.
In the tapestry of life, Dee has left behind a vibrant legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories. Though she may be gone from our sight, her spirit will continue to illuminate our lives with the warmth of her enduring love. Rest in peace, dear Dee, your journey may have ended, but your legacy will live on forever in our hearts.
