IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Dennis Charles
Schroeder
November 25, 1955 – July 6, 2023
Dennis Charles Schroeder, 67, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, July 6, 2023, with his wife, Trish, and daughter, Sarah, by his side, after a courageous battle with brain cancer.
Dennis was born in Hollywood, CA, on November 25, 1955, to Charles W. Schroeder and Patricia H. (Briggs) Schroeder. He grew up in Culver City, CA, where he graduated from Culver City High School in 1973 before serving in the US Air Force from 1974-1976. As an Aerial Defensive Gunner on a B-52 Stratofortress, he was awarded "Outstanding Performance" for his skill and excellence in airmanship during combat crew training at Castle Air Force Base. He was later stationed at Beale Air Force Base, California.
Dennis attended and graduated from Santa Monica College in 1978. He showcased his talent for writing as the Editor-in-Chief of the college newspaper, "Corsair." In 2013, despite undergoing radiation for his malignant brain cancer, Dennis graduated Cum Laude with a BSBA from the University of West Florida. He earned numerous accolades, including being on the President's list, receiving the Scholastic Excellence Award Scholarship, and being listed in Who's Who among students in American Universities & Colleges.
In July of 1982, Dennis met his wife, Trish, while working at Norms Restaurant in Huntington Beach, CA. It was love at first sight for Trish, and they shared 38 ½ years of marriage. Their loyalty and devotion to each other endured through thick and thin, richer or poorer, in sickness and in health. Their forever love was evident to all who knew them.
Dennis worked as a Marketing Consultant at ADX Communications, Cat Country 98.7 radio, from 2017 to 2020. He was highly skilled in organizing, planning, writing, and scheduling commercials, and was beloved by many. Unfortunately, he had to retire in October 2020 due to a bike accident that led to the discovery that his malignant brain tumor had re-emerged.
Before his work at ADX Communications, Dennis had a successful career at Cox Business & Cox Media, receiving numerous awards and recognitions. His roles included Regional Sales Manager for Cox Business, Gulf Coast, from 2014-2017, Inside Sales & Retention Manager for Cox Business, Florida/Georgia, from 2008-2014, Local Sales Manager for Cox Media, Pensacola, from 2003-2008, and various positions at Norms Restaurants, Reno Broadcast Radio, and Timer Warner Cable.
In addition to his professional achievements, Dennis embraced his spirituality and converted to Judaism in 1999. Although he was not affiliated with any synagogue, he applied the principles from the teachings to his everyday life. He valued love, health, self-respect, fairness, kindness, compassion, truth, peace, and doing what is right, even when no one was watching.
Dennis was passionate about volunteering and actively participated in various organizations. He was a member of Krewe of Lafitte for 12 years, serving as Float Captain in 2009 and on the Board of Directors from 2011-2013. He also volunteered with Fiesta Pensacola since 2007 and served on the Board of Governors from 2014-2016. Dennis held board memberships in several organizations, including the National Speakers Association, Sacred Heart Hospital Foundation/Cordova Mall Ball, Okaloosa County Economic Development Council, Navarre Chamber of Commerce, Suburban West Rotary Club, Communities in School, and Chain Reaction. He and his wife, Trish, volunteered together for Meals on Wheels, Sacred Heart Mall Ball, Waterfront Rescue Mission, Fiesta Pensacola, and Cordova Mall Ball.
Among his passions, Dennis achieved the 2nd Brown Sash at Pensacola Kung Fu & Tai Chi and held a Black Belt in Northern Eagle Claw & Shaolin Kung Fu. He enjoyed biking, hiking/walking and pursued his passion for writing as an author.
Dennis is preceded in death by his mother, Patricia Helen (Briggs) Schroeder, and his son, Tyler Shelton Schroeder.
He is survived by his loving wife, Trish Schroeder of Pensacola, FL; his daughter, Sarah Schroeder of Pensacola, FL; his father, Charles W. Schroeder (Darlene) of Sun City West, AZ; his brothers, Tim Schroeder (Sha) of Lake Tahoe, CA, Frank Schroeder (Linda) of Claremont, CA, Larry Schroeder (Andrea) of Lake Forest, CA; his sisters, Shannon Richardson (Troy) of Anaheim, CA, and Lisa Wolf (Brian) of Mission Viejo, CA; his granddaughter, Kelsey Elizabeth Schroeder of Pensacola, FL; his nephews, Braden, Nick, and Weston and his nieces, Kelsey, Kiley, Courtney, Jessica, Megan, Sasha, and Camille.
Dennis was known for his optimistic outlook, humble nature, and servant leadership. He possessed a positive mindset, embodying love, empathy, and creativity in all aspects of his life. Through his experiences, Dennis learned valuable lessons: to remain humble, to prioritize giving to others, to embrace life as a journey, to cherish the love and connections between individuals, and to be mindful and appreciative of the beauty and perfection that surrounds us in every moment. He firmly believed there are no coincidences and that wherever you find yourself and the people you encounter are integral parts of your life's journey. Dennis always encouraged others to remember that "this too shall pass" during challenging times and, above all, to enjoy the adventure of life. His parting words were always, "Have fun out there."
