Dolores Crabtree Barrow, affectionately known as “Mam-Ma,” passed away peacefully on October 10, 2026, at the age of 95, leaving behind a beautiful legacy of faith, family, friendship, and a lifetime of serving others.
Born and raised in Pensacola, Florida, Dolores was the beloved daughter of Mary Lee and Lloyd Crabtree. Her father owned and operated Crabtree Service Station at the corner of Pace Boulevard (originally O Street) and Cervantes Street. Much of her childhood was spent in and around the station, where she learned the value of hard work and was never one to shy away from a task, including driving the wrecker. Her brother, Lamar, was a race car driver, and Dolores spent many weekends traveling throughout the Southeast, cheering him on at racetracks along the way.
A proud member of the Pensacola High School Class of 1949, Dolores met the love of her life, Monte Barrow, while still in high school. His father owned a tire repair business, and Monte found plenty of reasons to roll tires over to the Crabtree station in hopes of catching Dolores’ eye. He knew she was the one. Dolores, however, took a little more convincing. His persistence eventually paid off, and the two were married on February 13, 1953, beginning a love story that spanned nearly 73 years.
Dolores spent her adult life in the business of serving others, beginning with her beloved husband, whom she doted on, and their two sons, Scott and Brett. Whether at the ballpark, in the classroom, or volunteering at Richards Memorial Methodist Church and later First Baptist Church of Pensacola, Dolores gave generously of her time and her heart. She especially loved serving weekly Samaritan Hands Ministry at First Baptist Church.
She had a gift for hospitality and delighted in celebrating others, hosting beautiful showers for brides-to-be and expectant mothers. She surrounded herself with wonderful Christian women who shared her devotion to the Lord, their families, and their communities.
Those who knew and loved Dolores knew her door was always open. There was always a fresh cup of coffee, something to eat (and usually several more offerings if you dared to decline), and a woman who would stop at nothing to make sure you felt welcomed, seen, heard, and loved. Hospitality was not simply something Dolores practiced; it was the very essence of who she was.
Dolores was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Monte; her parents, Mary Lee and Lloyd Crabtree; her brother, Lamar Crabtree; and her grandson, Spencer Barrow.
She is survived by her sons, Scott Barrow (Jennie) and Brett Barrow (Barb); her grandchildren, Seth, Ben, Sydney, and Lucy; her great-grandchildren, Beau and Shelby; her beloved nephew, Eddie, whom she loved as a son; and many cherished nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to her VITAS nurse, Shannon, and the extraordinary team of Dominique, Michelle, Zandra, and Summer. For the past five years, these women lovingly cared for Mam-Ma, making certain that her every need was met. They became so much more than caregivers. They became family, and Dolores loved them dearly.
Dolores, our much beloved Mam-Ma, lived a life rooted in faith, devoted to family, and defined by service. Her greatest gift was making others feel loved, and that legacy will live on in the many lives she touched.
Following a private burial, the family will receive friends on Monday, October 26, 2026, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., with a celebration of Dolores’ life to follow at 11:30 a.m. in Pleitz Chapel at First Baptist Church of Pensacola.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Samaritan Hands Ministry at First Baptist Church of Pensacola, a ministry that held a special place in Dolores’ heart.
