Obituary

Donald "Don" Boling, 85, of Cantonment, FL passed away Tuesday, July 14, 2020.

Don was born on a houseboat in Mobile, AL January 28, 1935 to Richard I. and Willie Pearl (Brantley) Boling. At the age of 12 the family relocated to the Brentwood area of Pensacola. He attended, J.M. Tate High School and other vocational schools. Don served his country during the Korean Conflict in the U.S. Navy. He worked for the City of Pensacola for 30 years, retiring in 1996 as supervisor of the City Garage. Don was a member of Escambia Lodge #15 for over 50 years. He was also a member of the Scottish Rite and Hadji Shrine. He was an active member of the New Life Sunday School class at St. Mark United Methodist Church where he served in several capacities; one of his favorites was frying fish for the church on special occasions.

Don is preceded in death by his parents; sisters' Olene Gandy, Vermele Gillispie and Joyce Bourgholtzer; brother, Leroy Boling and a son-in-law, Rev. Benny Abbott.

He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Johnnie Lou Boling; daughters, Cheryl Smith (Billy), Pamela Pitts and Donna Abbott (fiancé James Mack); grandchildren, Carrie Smith Thornton (Jonathan), Eric Smith, Emily Smith, Craig Pitts (Tori), Christy Swing (Kelvin), Jonathan Abbott and Lauren Abbott; great grandchildren, Claire, Thomas and Marion Thornton, Caleb and Caroline Pitts, Kelvin, Jr. and Cali Swing and Alyssa Hill; sister, Carolyn Garcia and many other nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation will be held 10:30am until the Funeral Service begins at 11:30 am Monday July 20, 2020 at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel. Please bring a mask and practice social distancing. Due to restrictions a private family graveside will be held at Barrancas National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Covenant Hospice, 5041 N. 12 th Ave Pensacola, FL 32504 or to St. Mark United Methodist Church, 2203 N. 12 th Ave. Pensacola, FL 32503.

The family would like to express a special thanks to Dr. Dissanayake and the Oncology staff at Sacred Heart Hospital as well as to Covenant Hospice and his nurse, Samantha O'Brien for her professional and loving care.
