Don Thompson, 79, of Pensacola, FL went to be with Jesus on September 25, 2015. He was born in Brewton, AL on June 30, 1936. He moved to Pensacola in 1954 and worked for Thompson Brothers. He then went on to work in the insurance industry and started his own agency, Key Insurance, in 1984. Don worked at the agency until he retired in 2011. Coaching was his passion for many years at the Northeast YMCA and the Boys and Girls Club. He coached both baseball and football for 26 years. He enjoyed music, old movies, golf, and playing horseshoes. Don loved the Lord and was a longtime member of McIlwain Presbyterian Church. He recently attended Avalon Baptist Church. He was a quiet servant who was always helpful to those in need. Don was preceded in death by his parents, J. W. and Lena Thompson; his six brothers; his son, Perry Thompson; and his wife of 39 years, Carol McCants Thompson. He is survived by his wife of 8 years, Betty Dixon Thompson; his four children, Donna (David) Fox, Pat Garwood, Maggie (Lee) Boyd, and Paul (Jenny) Thompson. He is also survived by his five grandchildren, Chris, Jenny, Perri, Jim, and Ella. Visitation will be held from 5-7pm on Tuesday, September 29, 2015 at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel. Funeral Service will be held 2:00pm on Wednesday, September 30, 2015 at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel with Pastor Henry Willett officiating. Burial will be in Bayview Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Bill Needham, Danny Kepner, Tyler Kepner, John Gormley, Chuck McCants, and Jim Bondurant.
