IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Don Murphree
White, Sr.
November 26, 1934 – January 3, 2023
Every family may have its unique personalities, but seldom has the universe produced someone as quick-witted, kind and delightfully irreverent as Don White.
Don Murphree White, Sr. was born in Mobile, Alabama, on November 26, 1934. Don was the youngest of Earl and Lillie M. White's six children. He was class president three times, lettered all four years of high school in both basketball and baseball, and was active in a variety of clubs. He also was unsurprisingly voted "Best Personality," by his senior class. After graduating from high school, Don served in the Army National Guard for seven years.
In his early twenties, Don met and married his wife Patsy Kay. Don and Pat went on to have five children and four grandchildren during their 68 years of marriage. He was a loving husband and father who worked tirelessly to provide for his family. His ability to make quick friends and his knack for creative problem-solving, would serve him well as a successful businessman and entrepreneur.
Don often traveled with friends playing golf and softball tournaments, well into his seventies. He was also an avid animal lover who cared for and adopted every cat that showed up at his office.
Finding a sport Don didn't excel at, a person who didn't quickly adore him, or a time when he wasn't helping others would prove challenging at any point of his life.
In the early hours of January 3, 2023, Don passed away peacefully with his family by his side. He is preceded in death by his parents Earl William White and Lillie Murphree White, as well as his stepfather, Thomas H. Gibson. His three brothers Earl, Malcolm, Carl Lacary (C.L.), and his two sisters Elsie and Marie.
He is survived by his wife, Patsy Kay White, daughters Vickie W. DuBose (John) of Pensacola, Florida, Kathy W. Marineau (Gary) of Hampton Cove, Alabama, Taltha White (Rhonda) of Tampa, Florida, son Don M. White, Jr. (Sandy) of Orlando, Florida, and Kay White (Bill Price) of Pensacola, Florida. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Jamie Muller, Samantha Marineau, Mitchal White and Anna White.
Don will always be remembered by his family as a positive force. Loyal, creative and generous, his motivations and priorities in life are something for which we should all strive. When it came to parenting, Don somehow managed to find the perfect balance of nurturing mentor and accomplice-in-mischief. Even after his hearing severely declined and he began to succumb to dementia and kidney disease, he still tried to be present in conversations and bring his usual levity at just the right moment. His family and friends will forever miss his bright presence and be grateful for the time they had with him.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the animal rescue of your choice or to the Alzheimer's Association in honor of Don's valiant battle against the disease.
The family would also like to thank the staff at Fresenius Kidney Care of North Pensacola for their years of care, as well as Covenant Hospice Center Inpatient, at West Florida Hospital, for their support and compassion .
