Dona F. Stenstrom, 94, passed away on Tuesday evening, August 22, 2023, at Azalea Trace in Pensacola, FL.

Dona was born January 5, 1929, in Eagle Grove, Iowa and was one of four children of Merryl and Aeline MacNaughton. She attended Lindenwood University and the University of Iowa, enjoying her time as a Tri-Delta sorority member. After graduating with a bachelor's degree, she became an art teacher, and eventually became a brilliant artist herself. Dona's focus was calligraphy. She was a member of the Colleagues of Calligraphy, the Gulf Coast Calligraphy Guild, the Art Study Club of Pensacola, and Gulf Breeze Arts.

Dona married Robert E. Stenstrom in Detroit, MI, where they had two children. Bob's occupation required numerous moves around the country, including Boston, Chicago, and Minneapolis. Eventually the couple settled and retired in Northwest Florida.

One of Dona's strongly held beliefs was a woman's right to choose. In the 90's, she served as a chaperone for women seeking to legally terminate their pregnancy at women's clinics while facing crowds of anti-abortion activists. She knew that her actions may result in her being a target, as was Dr. David Gunn who was shot in Pensacola at the time she served this cause. She was also a member of Impact 100, an organization of women striving to make a positive impact in the local community through the funding of grants to nonprofit organizations and other philanthropic endeavors.

Dona is preceded in death by her husband, Robert Stenstrom, in 2008.

Survivors include her daughter, Jo Ann Catalano; son, Don Stenstrom; as well as her grandchildren, Rhiannon and Caprice Catalano.

A memorial service will be held 10:00am Saturday, October 7, 2023, at Acacia Park Cemetery, 2151 Pilot Knob Rd., St. Paul, MN. Lunch and fellowship will follow at Axels, 1318 Sibley Memorial Hwy., Mendota, MN.
