Donald Lynn May, 78, a Godly and faithful husband, father, granddaddy and loyal friend - passed away Thursday, April 2, 2015 in Pensacola, FL. Don was born in Welch, AL on June 30, 1936 to Clifford and Ruby May. Graduating from West End High School in Birmingham, AL, he served his country in the Naval Reserves and attended Auburn University (War Eagle!) where he co-oped with Alabama Power Company and earned his degree in Electrical Engineering. Don convinced his sweetheart, Martha Lucretia Owen, to marry him on January 2nd and together they had one daughter, Martha Lynn May Newton. The couple went on to enjoy 55 years of celebrating family, exploring the great outdoors and giving back to the community. Don was a lifelong member of the Auburn Alumni Association and an inquisitive member of the UWF Leisure Learning Society. Don was a hardworking, successful and highly esteemed engineer: he worked with the oil industry in Texas, was an integral part of the space race in Huntsville, designed instrumentation controls with Monsanto, Pensacola for 27 years; published 32 engineering articles and consulted with the Mobile County Water Sewer and Fire Protection Authority for several decades. He was "an engineer's engineer" and enjoyed creating solutions to unique problems. Don and his beloved sweetheart reveled in a lifetime of outdoor adventures; trekking parts of the Appalachian Trail in 5 states, years of camping, beach and lake vacations and countless fishing expeditions. He and his bride shared their love for fishing, wildlife and friends at Lake Talquin, spending time enjoying God's creation exploring waterways, searching for alligators and reeling in the fish. He was a kind, sweet, generous southern gentlemen and friend to all who knew him. His great listening skills, encouraging spirit and his genuine appreciation for good food and big laughter are sorely missed already. He is preceded in death by his wife, Martha Lucretia Owen May and his parents Clifford and Ruby May. Don is survived by his daughter, Martha Newton; granddaughter, Madelyn Newton; grandson, Daniel Newton; brother, Clifford May and many loving family and friends. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, April 7, 2015 from 5-7 pm at Harper Morris Memorial Chapel. Don's Celebration of Life Service will be held on Wednesday, April 8, 2015 at Potential Church at 2 pm. Interment will follow at Bayview Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Covenant Hospice, specifically the Joyce Goldenberg Hospice Inpatient Residence, referencing Donald May; 10075 Hillview Rd., Pensacola, FL 32514. Don and Lu are now together, dancing the jitterbug and fishing in Heavenly Waters!
