Donald Patrick Morris, 88, of Pensacola, FL passed away Tuesday, October 31, 2017.
He was born on September 1, 1929 in Ilion, NY. Don was the seventh son in a family of eight brothers and one sister. He attended Annunciation School and then graduated from Ilion High School. Don, or "Red" as he was called, starred on the basketball and football high school teams. After high school, Don declined a football scholarship to Hobart College and enlisted in the US Navy. Upon discharge, he enrolled at Rochester Institute of Technology where he obtained his degree in Photography. In 1953 he married his college sweetheart Maureen J. Doyle who together then raised four children. Don worked as a photographer for General Electric in Utica, NY and eventually opened his own business with his brother Al, Morris Brothers Photography. They operated the business until its sale in 1989. Many good times and holidays were spent with close family friends the Manleys, Paonis and Vayos. Summers were spent in Piseco, NY where Don was a founding member of The Piseco Lake Sailing, Skiing and Tubing Club. Don and Maureen moved to Clearwater, FL in 1989 eventually moving to Venice, FL to be closer to several of his brothers: Dick, Ted and Bob. Don and Maureen moved to Pensacola in 2005 to be closer to their daughter Nancy Morris, MD. In later years Don enjoyed playing bridge and was active in several bridge clubs in Pensacola.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Maureen and survived by his brothers, Alfred (Sue) of
Boston, MA and Robert (Anne) of Venice, FL as well as his children: Mark (Mary Jo) of Buffalo NY, Nancy (Joe Grossi) of Pensacola FL, Daniel of Pensacola FL and Maureen (Paul Arciero) of New City NY; and grandchildren, Bridget, Erin, Padraic, Ryan, Caile, Michael and Katie; as well as a great-granddaughter, Paige.
Funeral Mass will be held 2:00pm Saturday, November 4, 2017 at the Basilica of St. Michael the Archangel, with Fr. Joseph P. Callipare Rector celebrant.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St Joseph's Medical Clinic, 131 W.
Intendencia St., Pensacola, FL 32502.
The family wishes to express special thanks to Dr. Steve Lenga and the physicians and staff of The Medical Center Clinic, who took great care of him.
