Obituary

Donald Lee Paro, beloved father, husband, brother, and esteemed member of the Pensacola community died at the age of 82 on Friday, March 29, 2024.

Don, as he was affectionately known, lived a life brimming with adventure, love, kindness, and unwavering devotion to his immediate and extended family and friends. Born on August 23, 1941, Don's early years were spent in Detroit City before his family returned to Pensacola during his early teen years. He was warmly welcomed into the extended family, spending countless hours with his cousins on the bluffs of Scenic Highway and creating cherished memories camping on the beach during week-long 4th of July celebrations. Don's adventurous spirit led him to become a lifeguard on Pensacola Beach as well as travel extensively, enriching the lives of those around him. Whether he was skiing down mountains with his family in Colorado or pursuing fascinating locations such as China and Russia with his cousin, his love for travel and exploration knew no bounds. He also enjoyed summers Lobstering in the Keys, an adventure around every corner. An alumnus of Pensacola High School and PJC, Don's journey led him to serve in the Army as a missile expert before pursuing higher education at Troy State Teachers College. His professional endeavors included teaching and procuring a local insurance business, ultimately establishing one of the finest agencies in Pensacola, leaving behind a legacy of compassion, integrity, and resilience that will continue to inspire all who knew him.

Don is preceded in death by his mother, Francis Bryson; father, Donald Paro Sr.; his first wife, Ilene; and his son, Donald T. Paro, III.

He is survived by his second wife, Gayle Paro; his daughters, Kristy Paro and Kathy Paro (Brian Lee) and his stepson, Michael Elliot; his siblings, Michael Bryson (Ann Bryson), Emil "Penny" Bryson (Dianne Bryson), and Mary Brown. Don leaves behind an extensive network and large family, which includes numerous relatives such as his aunt, Barbara (Bobbie) Thompson, and brother-by-another-mother, cousin Baldwin "Jack" Bobe, Jr.

Don's enduring legacy and spirit will live on in the hearts of all who loved and appreciated him. His deep devotion to family, appreciation of beautiful sunsets, child-like wonder and creativity, and engaging tales of family memories will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
