Donna Kay Gilmore, a dedicated Marine, a trailblazer in computer technology, and beloved family member, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, March 15, 2026.

Donna was born on November 21, 1948, to Joseph and Doris Gilmore in Okinawa, Japan where her father was serving in the United States Air Force. Donna grew up with a strong sense of service and discipline that would guide her throughout her life. In August of 1969, during the Vietnam War era, she proudly and voluntarily followed the path of her father and brothers by joining the United States Marine Corps and answering a call to serve her country during a time of conflict.

Donna proudly served four years in the Marines. During her military career, she completed boot camp at Paris Island, South Carolina, and went on to serve with the Fleet Marine Force at other duty stations. Her time in the Marines reflected her commitment, resilience, and pioneering spirit. She later made Pensacola, Florida her home.

Following her military service, Donna embarked on a long and exciting career in the emerging field of computer technology. At a time when the industry was still developing, she became a pioneer in modern computing. She worked with IBM, where she specialized in computer programming and financial accounting, contributing her expertise during a transformative era in technology. After her tenure at IBM, she continued her career with the Naval Facilities Engineering Command, where she remained dedicated to excellence and public service. Donna was known for her incredible intelligence and sharp mind, earning the respect of colleagues throughout her career.

Donna cared deeply about her family. They were always her highest priority. She had a special way of making every niece and nephew feel like they were her favorite, and she was always there to support and care for those she loved. Her warmth, generosity, and devotion to family will be remembered by all who knew her.

She also had a deep love for animals and was a passionate advocate for their care and well-being.

Donna is preceded in death by her mother, Doris (Smith) Gilmore; father, Joseph H. Gilmore; brother, Joseph Daniel “Danny” Gilmore; as well as her sister, Patricia “Patty” Gilmore.

She is survived by her loving spouse of 25 years, Corinne Kelly; her brothers and sisters-in-law, Tommy (Karen), Jimmy (Debra), Jeff (Kathleen), Michael (Julie), and sister-in-law Kathy Gilmore; as well as many cherished nieces, Nancy Simmons, Shelly Beasley, Brandi Knapp, Allison Daley, Amy Tait, Jocalyn Gilmore, Amanda Lines, Summer Gilmore and nephews, Zac Gilmore, James Gilmore, Brent Gilmore, and Bryce Gilmore, who will remember her strength, intelligence, humor, and unwavering love.

Donna’s legacy is one of service, innovation, compassion, and perseverance. She broke barriers in both military and technological fields and lived a life marked by purpose, care for others, and remarkable achievements. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Visitation will be held 12:30pm until a Memorial Service begins at 1:00pm Thursday, June 4, 2026, at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel. Interment will follow at Barrancas National Cemetery with full military honors.
