Doris Walker Burttschell, 87, of Pensacola, FL passed away on Thursday, September 3, 2015. Our mother went home to her heavenly Father and loving arms of her beloved husband, Simon John and precious baby daughter, Andrea Cara Marie, family and friends. We know how happy she must be. She was born August 14, 1928, in Pensacola FL, to Oscar H. Walker and Carrie Parrish Walker. She had three brothers, Albert, Charles and Hayward Walker. They all preceded her in death. While working with Southern Bell Telephone Co, as a Service Representative, she met the love of her life, a Naval Officer (her own Top Gun). They were married at St. Michael Catholic Church September 1950. That was the beginning of a nearly 50 year journey. Mom loved being a Navy wife ... traveling, entertaining, and decorating each house to make it home. While our dad was away on deployment she ran a tight ship back home. Each move was a vacation and adventure visiting all the historical sights in our beautiful country. After retiring from the Navy, our dad worked eight years with the National Air and Space Administration (NASA) at Kennedy Space Center. He was with the team that put a man on the moon. Those were very exciting times for our family. Mom always took time to volunteer. She was a Red Cross Nurse (Grey Lady), working in school clinics and base hospitals. She was a Den Mother with the Boy Scouts and was proud of her three Eagle Scouts and Star Scout. Mom was a member of the Pensacola Women's Club, Dogwood Garden Club and Retired Officers Wives Association and enjoyed playing bridge with several different clubs. After dad retired we came home to Pensacola and she became a faithful member of St. Paul Catholic Church, joined St. Joseph Circle and the ladies made beautiful crafts for many years and donated graciously to charities. She was survived by four sons, Simon John (Linda), Joseph Douglas (Deborah), Thomas Hayward (Melissa), Patrick Jeffery (Carla). Her precious jewels were her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren...they were all bright lights in her life; sisters-in-law, Meriette Robertson of Pensacola and Carlene Burttschell of Iowa and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who all brought her great joy. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10am Tuesday, September 8, 2015 from St. Paul Catholic Church with Fr. Kevin McQuone celebrant. Burial to follow at Barrancas National Cemetery at 11:45am. A GRACEFUL, GENTLE LADY ...GOOD NIGHT MOM
