Doris L. Heintzman, age 94, passed away on Wednesday, May 30, 2018 in her home at The Waterford at Carpenter's Creek in Pensacola, FL.
She was born on November 13, 1923 in Peoria, IL to Ralph and Emma (Bouhl) Romann and was the youngest of four children. After graduating from Peoria High School, she worked at Caterpillar Tractor Co. in Peoria. She enlisted in the U.S. Naval Reserve as a WAVE in 1943, where she served for three years during WWII. She was assigned to the War Department in Washington for the duration of the war.
On November 30, 1946, she married Michael D. Heintzman, an ex-Marine, in Peoria. On their first date he took her shooting, and she outshot him. It was love at first gun smoke. She became a homemaker and police officer's wife. Doris and Mike lived in Peoria, Metamora, IL, Panama City, FL, Pace, and Pensacola. Mike died in 2004.
Together, they raised four children; Emmy L. Murawski (deceased) her husband Robert, Michael L. Heintzman (Mary), Melissa A. Minor (Lewis), and Christopher A. Heintzman. Doris also had 6 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10:00am Friday, June 8, 2018 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, with Fr. Dominic Phan Sa celebrant.
A Funeral Cortege will leave Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel at 12noon Friday, June 8, 2018 for a Graveside Service at Barrancas National Cemetery, with military honors.
Doris lived a full and eventful life. She will be missed by her family and all that knew her.
The family would like to thank the staffs of The Waterford and Emerald Coast Hospice who took such excellent care of her.
