IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Doris Virginia
Hoopes
September 8, 1933 – November 23, 2024
Doris Virginia Hoopes, of Pensacola, FL, passed away on Saturday, November 23, 2024, at the age of 91.
Doris was born on the family's farm in Carroll County, Maryland, the youngest of seven children. After the farm was sold, the family moved to Hanover, PA, where she lived until she married.
Doris was a proud USN spouse and could travel the world during her husband's many deployments. She enjoyed her travels to the fullest and spoke fondly of them. Her family and grandchildren were her biggest delights, and as their caregiver, she often took them on her journeys in search of beanie babies.
Her passion for bowling created a second family at Cordova Lanes. She was secretary for many bowling leagues and was very involved in their youth bowling leagues and state tournaments. She dearly loved many of the people she worked and bowled with at the lanes and sincerely considered them family. Cordova Lanes became her passion and gave her purpose after her husband's early death. We thank you! The family asks that she be remembered for the joy she brought to others in life, and not the sadness of her passing.
Doris is preceded in death by her husband of 34 years, Gene W. Hoopes; her parents, Smeach and Gertrude Wentz Jones; brothers, Edward, Dewey and Nevin; sisters, Mildred, Grace and Beatie.
Those left to cherish her memory include, her son, Wade Hoopes (Michelle); her daughter, Sheree Riffenburg (Tom); her five grandchildren, Ashley Buzzi (Nate), Brittany Riffenburg, Matthew Riffenburg, Noah Hoopes, and Zachary Blackman; two great-grandchildren, Eden and Giana Buzzi.
Visitation will be held from 10:30AM until a Funeral Service to begin at 11:30AM on Tuesday, December 3, 2024, at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel, with Chaplin Andrew DeGuire serving as officiant.
A committal Service will follow at Barrancas National Cemetery.
The family would like to express a heartfelt thank you to the Life Care Center of Pensacola for taking such good care of Mom while she was there, and a genuine shout out to Octavia who was Mom's saving grace.
