Obituary

Dorothy Ann Bosak Vuksta, 86, went peacefully on Saturday, April 22, 2017 in Pensacola, FL. She was born (May 10, 1930) and raised in Youngstown, OH as a Byzantine Catholic. She was Woodrow Wilson's valedictorian in 1948. She married Captain Michael J. Vuksta MD in 1953 and had 4 children. Dorothy loved playing musical instruments especially the cello, drawing, playing sports, attending sporting events for The Ohio State University, Youngstown State and the Naval Academy and Ursuline High School. She also enjoyed swimming, fishing, international traveling and volunteering at her children's events. She was fun, grateful and always eager for new adventure! She was a very devoted mother and Navy wife. In Youngstown, OH, she worked as a secretary at a dentist office and Royal Typewriter. Then she was a secretary exporter at Truscon Steel. In Columbus, OH she worked at Batelle Memorial Research Institute as a translator. She finally served as Michael's medical office manager before they moved in 1989 to the Oakland Navy Hospital in Oakland, CA. She volunteered for many organizations and committees over the years such as Coast Guard, Navy League, ELKS, Logan Swim Club, Pensacola Lighthouse, Gulf War Support Group and many women's organizations. She retired with Michael to Pensacola in 1993.

She was preceded in her death by her parents, John and Ida Molchaney Bosak; her brother, Thomas (Helen) Bosak of Youngstown, OH; her siblings are John (Vivian) of North Ridge, CA, Mary (Pete) of DeBary, FL and George David (Rosemary) of Anaheim, CA. Dorothy also leaves behind many nieces and nephews.

She leaves behind her husband, Dr. Michael J. Vuksta; her children, Patricia Vrazel (Douglas) of Rockport, TX, Michael, Carol Davis and Janet James (Randy) of Delaware, OH and Buster, the family Boston Terrier that she had a love-hate relationship with for many years. Dorothy had 3 grandchildren, Patrick Vrazel, Jacqueline Vrazel Bell (Justin) and Caitlin Davis and one great grandchild Hannah Leigh Bell.

Special thanks to her caregiver and friend, Carol "Suzi" Mercer and the Haven of Our Lady of Peace in Pensacola, FL who took awesome care of her.

For family and friends in Youngstown, OH we will have a mass and lunch this summer.

Visitation will be held on Friday, April 28, 2017 at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel, 2276 Airport Blvd., Pensacola, FL 32504 beginning at 12:00noon until a Funeral Cortege to depart Harper-Morris at 12:30pm for a Funeral Mass to begin at 1:00pm at Lady of Loretto Catholic Chapel, NAS Pensacola, FL with Fr. Pete McLaughlin celebrant. Burial will follow at Barrancas National Cemetery, NAS Pensacola.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to Dorothy's favorite charity St. Jude's Hospital or a Breast Cancer Charity since she was a breast cancer survivor for many years.
