Obituary

Dorothy Jean "Dear" Calvert, 83, died Sunday, February 18, 2024.

Jean, known as "Dear" to her family, was a native and lifelong resident of Pensacola. She lived her life as a devoted Christian and member of Trinity Presbyterian Church where she raised her family and served the church for over 40 years in roles as an elder, Stephen Minister and small group leader for many causes. She was also very active in support of United Ministries.

Above all, she loved her large family and spending time with them every chance she could. This would include annual family trips to the Smoky Mountains, birthday celebrations and sitting on the beach with her toes in the sand. On any holiday or reason to celebrate, you would find 40-50 family members and friends around her table and on her beloved back porch where she would entertain.

Jean had many friends and didn't know a stranger, but she also had a tight-knit group of friends she held close to for decades. She also enjoyed playing golf and tennis with her Wednesday night tennis group. She and her husband Bill loved to travel, but after a short while she was ready to get back to her family, beach, and friends. When she wasn't at church, hosting a party, traveling, playing tennis or golf, you would likely find her on that back porch in reflection, reading or simply enjoying being outside.

Dear is preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, Dr. William M. "Bill" Calvert, and her daughter, Ashley Williams Thompson.

Survivors include 3 sons, Bill Williams, Jr. (Linda), David T. Williams, and Malcolm S. Williams; 3 stepchildren, W. Mark Calvert (Linda), Julie C. Taylor, R. Scott Calvert (Melissa); 17 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life service will be held 3:00pm (CST) Monday, February 26, 2024, at Trinity Presbyterian Church. A private family interment will be held in the Trinity Presbyterian Church Memorial Garden.

The family requests, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Trinity Presbyterian Church, 3400 Bayou Blvd, Pensacola, FL 32503 or to United Ministries, 257-B East Lee Street, Pensacola, FL 32503 www.unitedministries.com
