Dorothy Folkers, 86, of Pensacola died Wednesday morning, February 9, 2011, after a brief illness. Born Dorothy Mae Cameron on September 6, 1924, in Beardstown, IL, she lived many years in Peoria, IL before moving to Pensacola in 1961. Dot will be remembered most for being a wonderful mother, a joyful friend, and a generous writer. She shared her gifts of humor, positivity and love with all who knew her. While working and raising five children she had many of those opportunities, but especially felt such joy from her time of friendship and camaraderie while living at Azalea Trace. Dot will be remembered with admiration and gratitude by her large family of those related and chosen alike. Dot was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry and by three brothers. She is survived by her sister, Althea McPherson of San Antonio, TX; her sons, Fred (Janice) of Stone Mountain, GA, Rick (Toni) of Pensacola, Tom (Sparkie) of Gulf Breeze, Larry (Alicia) of Atlanta, GA and daughter Bonnie (Hugh) Meyer of Bowling Green, KY; along with twelve devoted grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren, plus two on the way. A celebration of her life will be held Saturday, February 12, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at the Azalea Trace Community Room. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her honor to the Azalea Trace Heritage Fund or to Covenant Hospice, 5041 N. 12th Ave., Pensacola, FL 32504.
