Dorothy Alice Doty Heideman, 98, of Pensacola, FL passed away Saturday, September 4, 2021.
She was born in Boulder, CO on June 24, 1923 and lived in Wyoming and Idaho before returning to Wheat Ridge, CO in 1934.
Dorothy graduated from Colorado State University with a degree in Food and Nutrition, and earned a Master's degree in Public Health from the University of Michigan. She was working at the Cook Co. Health Dept. in Chicago when she met and married Del Heideman in 1952. The couple lived in Glen Ellyn, IL for 30 years where they raised their two sons. Dorothy worked as a dietary consultant to several Chicago area nursing homes, and was also a partner in the family-owned business, Turbo Vac Equipment.
Dorothy was active in numerous women's organizations, including PEO, DAR, Daughters of 1812, Mayflower Society, AAUW, and Presbyterian Women, often serving in a leadership position. She enjoyed music (played piano and organ), traveling, history, genealogy, reading, and gardening. She was a devout Christian who read her Bible daily.
Dorothy and Del retired to Pensacola in 1986 and joined First Presbyterian Church. She volunteered at United Ministries and enjoyed playing piano for the residents of Willow Brooke Court at Azalea Trace Retirement Community, where she and Del eventually moved in 2000. They enjoyed many wonderful international trips including Turkey, Scandinavia, Italy, England, the Panama Canal, and the Maritime Provinces of Canada. Dorothy was proud to have visited all 50 states during her lifetime.
Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents, Fred Lee Doty and Lillian Alice Moles Doty; her husband of 60 years, Irvin LaDelle "Del" Heideman; her son, Karl Frederick; her sister, Eleanor Doty Foddy, and her brother, Frederick Doty.
Survivors include her son, Kurt Grover Heideman (Sarah) of Lynchburg, VA; grandchildren, Kevin Harrell Heideman (Alison) of San Diego, CA, Rachel Doty Heideman of Richmond, VA, Mark Ellis Heideman of Glen Allen, VA, and Kari Elizabeth Heideman of New Orleans, LA and her daughter-in-law, Walta Thorn Heideman of New Orleans, LA.
A Memorial Service will be held 10:30 am Saturday, September 25, 2021, at First Presbyterian Church, with Rev. Robert Quiring and Rev. Joan Wooten, officiating. Interment will follow in the Columbarium at First Presbyterian Church, Pensacola, FL.
