Dorothy May Panhorst, 89, of Pensacola, FL was called home on Wednesday, October 13, 2021.

Dot was born in St. Louis, MO on November 8, 1931, and was married to the love of her life, Dr. Donald Panhorst, for over 65 years. Dot earned a Bachelor of Arts in Music from Central Methodist College in Fayette, MO in 1953. She and her family lived in Rochester, NY, from 1961 to 1966, where she supported her husband's doctoral studies and gained a Master's of Science Degree in Education from SUNY Brockport. Dot then moved to Edinboro, PA to raise her family and was proud of her 25-year career as a kindergarten teacher in Edinboro.

After retiring Dot moved to Pensacola, where she volunteered with many organizations including the Naval Aviation Museum. She was an accomplished piano player and accompanist who also enjoyed bingo, reading, singing, and attending concerts and plays. She loved to travel and enjoyed many cruises and trips with Don.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Donald Panhorst; mother, Helen Staton; father, Dale Carmichael; and sisters, Joanne Hodges, and Norma Christiansen.

Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Lynda (David) Lawrence of Woking, Surrey, England, and David (Dorothy) Panhorst of Morristown, NJ; granddaughters, Elizabeth Read and Jennifer Minall of England; great-granddaughters; Phoebe and Penelope Read of England; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

A private memorial service and inurnment will be held at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, VA.
