Obituary

Dorrell Aloysius Taylor was born on May 10, 1929 in Above Rocks, St. Catherine, Jamaica, West Indies. He was the third eldest of nine siblings born to the union of John and Doris Taylor. While living in Kingston, Jamaica, he met his future wife, Gloria Dorothy Dawkins and on March 26, 1955 they were married in Birmingham, England. Of that union, six children were born, four sons and two daughters. In March of this year, Dorrell and Gloria celebrated 59 years of marriage. Gloria fondly remembers her very first encounter with Dorrell when he declared "Your going to be my wife". He was certainly a man of his word. Dorrell never met a stranger, to know him was to love him. He was known for his devotion to his family, friends, and every employer he worked for over the years. A humble man with an easy going spirit, Dorrell was a pleasure to be around. He enjoyed playing dominoes, watching American baseball, and spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Dorrell was a loving, dedicated husband and father who worked over 25 years for Dunlop Industry in Birmingham, England. In 1979 he and his family immigrated to Long Island, New York, where he was employed at Arkwin Industries. In 1994 Dorrell and Gloria returned to their homeland of Jamaica where they would spend the next 15 years before moving back to the USA to reside with their daughter in Pensacola, Florida in 2010. Dorrell passed away peacefully in his sleep at home on Wednesday, May 14, 2014. He was preceded in death by his parents John and Doris Taylor, older sister, Myrtle Hazel, son Jeffrey Taylor, and granddaughter Stacey Taylor. Dorrell is survived by his wife Gloria Taylor; sons: Patrick Taylor, Robert Taylor, both of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; Richard (Sonia) Taylor of Telford, England and daughters Mary Elaine (Jerry) Brownlee of Pensacola, FL and Maxine (Edmond) Dwyer of Oakville, Canada; brothers: Clive (Pauline) Taylor, Paul (Dawn) Taylor, Ronnie (Herma) Taylor and sisters: Mabel (Ancel) Lewars, Kathleen (Maurice) Creary, Joy Dwyer, and Audrey (Anthony) Ferdinand; 15 grandchildren as well as a host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. A Memorial Service was held 2:00pm Sunday, MAy 18, 2014 at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel.
