IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Douglas C.
Halford
March 4, 1943 – December 1, 2021
Douglas C. Halford, born March 4, 1943, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Wednesday, December 1, 2021, surrounded by family and friends.
Doug was born to Lamar and Maime Halford in Jacksonville, FL. He attended Nathan Bedford Forest High and St. Johns River Junior College in Jacksonville, and The University of Maryland. He served in the US Army Medical Corps from 1961-1964. Doug moved to Pensacola more than forty years ago and quickly became engaged in the community and in business. First, as the saloonkeeper and owner of Machine Gun Kelly's, then as a pioneer in the commercial real estate development and revitalization of Downtown Pensacola. In the early nineties he met and married the love of his life Nancy Stanton with whom he shared an amazing and exciting life for the last 30 years.
Doug Halford was a renaissance man who lived life to its fullest! From soaring through the skies as a pilot and skydiver, to scuba diving in the Caribbean and hundreds of adventures in between. Doug ran with the bulls in Pamplona, rode the Baja 500 on his motorcycle, traveled the country with Nancy in their RV and vacationed throughout the world with many dear friends.
As a local business leader and mentor, Doug received awards for business leadership and ethics. He served on over 40 different community boards of directors in areas of education, real estate, history, and business. He was a founding officer of Pensacola Five Flags Rotary and was elected and served on the Pensacola City Council.
Doug was an innovator and entrepreneur who was active in starting and supporting new business ventures and organizations in Pensacola. Included in that group of start-ups was The Halford Company, commercial real estate and consulting firm founded in 1982, which continues to serve the area today.
As a true gentleman with a kind spirit and great sense of adventure and humor, Doug will be missed by so many. He is preceded in death by his parents, Lamar and Maime Halford, and his brother, James Halford.
He is survived by his loving wife, Nancy Halford; his daughter, Erin Cripple (Charles); his granddaughter, Maryreid Elizabeth Martin and his brother, William Henry Halford (Adrianne).
Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:00am Friday, December 10, 2021, at the Basilica of St. Michael the Archangel, 21 N. Palafox St., with the Very Reverend Joseph P. Callipare celebrant. Inurnment will be at a future date at Barrancas National Cemetery, Pensacola, FL.
