Dr. Frank John Greskovich, Jr., a trailblazing oral and maxillofacial surgeon, devoted family man, and cherished member of the Pensacola community, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 16, 2026, in Pensacola, FL. He was 90 years old.

Born on May 4, 1935, in Fredericktown, PA, to Frank John Greskovich, Sr., and Jean Ellis Greskovich, Frank was an excellent student and athlete. He accepted a football scholarship to Penn State University to play for their legendary coach Rip Engle. Unfortunately, a knee injury as a freshman cut short his time at Penn State. He transferred to Washington and Jefferson College where he competed as a collegiate wrestler, and in spite of his injury, he resumed his football career as a running back and earned several All-American honors. He pursued his education with distinction, earning a Bachelor of Science degree from Washington and Jefferson in 1957 where he graduated in the ROTC program as a distinguished military student.

He first laid eyes on (although did not meet) his future wife Veronica Sabol, during her Valedictory address at a rival high school. A few weeks later he “accidentally” ran into her at a local dairy bar. The rest is history. Upon his graduation from college, they married in June 1957.

He continued his academic journey at the University of Pittsburgh School of Dentistry, where he received his Doctor of Medical Dentistry degree in 1961. Furthering his expertise, he completed specialized training in oral and maxillofacial surgery at Duke University Medical School in 1964.

In 1964, Dr. Greskovich was inducted into the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War where he served as a Captain with the Army Infantry Air Cavalry at Martin Army Hospital in Fort Benning, GA. There, he led the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery with dedication and skill. After being honorably discharged in 1966, he relocated to Pensacola, FL, with Veronica and their three sons. In Pensacola, he became the first fellowship-trained oral and maxillofacial surgeon in Northwest Florida.

Dr. Greskovich’s career was marked by innovation and vision. Partnering with Dr. James H. Balcom, he built a thriving practice that became a cornerstone of the dental community. He developed the Cordova Medical Dental Center to house multiple medical and dental practices and later founded the Cordova Medical Dental Ambulatory Surgery Center - the first freestanding surgical center in Northwest Florida. His contributions extended beyond his practice. He secured a certificate of need for a 350-bed doctor’s hospital and generously donated land to Sacred Heart Hospital for the construction of Pensacola’s Ronald McDonald House.

A man of deep faith and commitment to service, Dr. Greskovich was a lifelong Roman Catholic who joined St. Paul Catholic Church during its early years alongside his family. His sons and granddaughters attended the parish school, and he and Veronica were longtime benefactors of the church. In 1983 Dr. Greskovich was ordained as a Deacon in the Diocese of Pensacola-Tallahassee, further exemplifying his dedication to his faith and community.

He was an avid outdoorsman. He cherished his trips to remote land he owned in Alaska. He qualified as an expert marksman in the military and was an ardent wing shooter, searching throughout Central and South America until he discovered dove hunting nirvana in Argentina. A big game safari to Africa was also a realized dream. He was a fisherman and Master Scuba Diver. He kept bees. He was an original member of the Pensacola Ski Club. He also enjoyed flying.

He was a world traveler. His grandchildren marveled at a world map that cataloged his adventures with Veronica. In addition, he went on numerous mission trips both on his own and with his grandchildren. He was a voracious reader who never met a stranger.

Even greater than his passion for faith, travel and community was his passion for family. Frank and his sons worked together at the family home construction site on weekends, clearing land, tearing down beaver dams, hand digging a basement and clearing out portions of the Gaberonne swamp. By the time it was finished, there was no snake they could not identify. He transformed the marsh into stocked ponds where his children, neighborhood children, his grandchildren and great grandchildren would fish.

This love of family was echoed in Oubaas Plantation - his longleaf tree farm in Elsanor, AL - which featured a beautiful lake and an estancia modeled after an Argentinian farm home.

Frank lived life with boundless energy and enthusiasm - a true force of nature who left an indelible mark on everyone he encountered.

Dr. Greskovich is survived by his beloved wife of 68 years, Veronica Sabol Greskovich; their three sons: Dr. Frank John Greskovich, III (Carla) of Pensacola; Dr. Mark Sabol Greskovich (Lisa) of Pensacola; and Gregory Sabol Greskovich (Kim) of Austin, TX; as well as six grandchildren: Anna Greskovich Davis of Tallahassee; Dr. Caitlin Greskovich Haydek (John) of Chapel Hill, NC; Madeleine Greskovich Harpool (Josh) of Pensacola; Meghan Greskovich Hooper (Zach) of Fairhope, AL; William Greskovich of Austin, TX; David Greskovich of Austin, TX; and seven great-grandchildren.

He is also survived by his sister Barbara Jean Falcon of Greensboro, NC; Joanne Greskovich; and numerous extended family members and friends who cherished him deeply.

Dr. Greskovich is preceded in death by his parents, Frank John Greskovich Sr., Jean Ellis Greskovich; and his brother, John F. Greskovich.

A Funeral Mass to honor Dr. Frank John Greskovich Jr.’s extraordinary life and legacy will be held 11:00am Saturday, April 25, 2026, at St. Paul Catholic Church, 3131 Hyde Park Rd., Pensacola, FL, with Fr. Grant Sennott celebrant. A reception will follow. Private interment will be at Bayview Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Autism Pensacola.

May his memory bring comfort to all who knew him as they celebrate a life well-lived - a life filled with love for family, faith, community, and adventure.
