Duana Vale Schaefer was born in Wenatchee, Washington on March 8, 1942 to Helen Margerite Smart and Ervin Edward Schaefer. Duana attended school at Upper Columbia Academy class of 1957 in Spangle, Washington. As a girl she led the Apple Blossom parade as a baton twirler and was first place on the swim team. In 1959 she married Vernon Smithson and together they had three children, Verna Marie (Harbaugh), Angela Rochelle (Hawkins) and Julie Suzanne (Harvey). Duana asked Jesus into her heart and attended First Baptist Church in Everett where she taught Sunday school and made many friends. Vernon and Duana divorced in 1970. Afterwards she re-married and attended Edmonds Community College, enjoyed camping, dabbled in modeling and flower arranging, worked at Safeway and later on was co-owner of a tree service business in Lynnwood, Washington.
She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and was a wonderful cook-her special pot roast was amazing. She loved to garden, play cards and travel and she loved her dogs Huey and Louie. Duana had a wonderful heart, a beautiful smile and will be truly missed.
Duana was preceded in death by her dear brothers, Merwyn Dennis Schaefer and Lanny Alvis Schaefer who both fought valiantly in the Vietnam War as well as her grandson Robert Glenn Keck III.
She is survived by her husband, Tom Hoffhines; her daughters, seven grandchildren, Brandon Ray Harbaugh, Juliane Rochelle Harbaugh, Candace Justyne Harvey, Pazelee Suzanne Harvey, Richard James Harvey III, Garrett Jarrel Harvey, Faith Margerite Harvey and Mandolin Glass; and her four great-grandchildren, Alexander Ray Harbaugh, Maliya Ray Megaard, Carter James Eliason and Oliver Dean Eliason.
