Obituary

Earl Greenwood, 86 of Pensacola went to be with the Lord on Friday, July 27, 2012. He was born in Grafton, ND on March 15, 1926 to Malcolm Greenwood and Pearl Francis (Pettit) Greenwood. He was one of ten children and is survived by his brothers, Eddie, Neil and sister, Helen. He grew up in the small town of Backoo, ND, after graduating from high school in 1944 he enlisted in the Navy, which sent him to Minot State Teachers College for 2 years. He became an Aviation Cadet and then went on to flight school, where he was qualified in ASW Aircraft. In 1959 at Ellyson Field he became qualified as a helicopter pilot. He served in WWII, Korean Conflict as well as the Vietnam War, after 30 years of Naval service he retired on July 1, 1970 at Ellyson Field. After retirement he attended the University of West Florida and obtained his BA and Masters Degrees. He taught math for 14 years in Escambia County schools and PJC Adult High School. He was a member of McIlwain Presbyterian Church where he and his family attended. Mr. Greenwood was preceded in death by his parents and son, Todd Malcolm Greenwood. He was a devoted family man and is survived by his wife of 52 years, Jeannette Clair (White) Greenwood they were married on February 14, 1959 at the Naval Chapel in Washington DC; his sons, David Earl Greenwood and Kevin Dow Greenwood; daughter, Julie Ann Harper (Charles); granddaughter, Cierra Ann Verhoest; great grandchildren, Brayden Taylor and Jayden Marie. Graveside Services will be held on Thursday, August 2, 2012 at 11:00am at Barrancas National Cemetery with full military honors, Rev. Cliff Wilcox officiating. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date. Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
