IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Edith Underset
Andrews
July 27, 1928 – October 7, 2022
Edith "Edie" Underset Andrews, 94, passed away Friday, October 7, 2022.
Edie was born on July 27, 1928, in Ft. Lauderdale, FL to Norwegian immigrants, Hans and Margit Underset. She graduated from Lauderdale High School in June 1946. In July of that same year, she married a Naval Aviator she met just days before he left for WWII, where he served for a year as a torpedo bomber. They got acquainted through mail and dated during Edie's senior year before marrying. Their love story included 72 anniversaries, 4 children, many transfers, and a lot of laughter. Edie and Doug were active Christians, teaching Sunday School classes, and serving on committees, and in the community everywhere they lived. Edie considered homemaking a calling, and consistently made her home the cleanest, neatest, and most inviting. Her love, loyalty, devotion, and commitment to her husband was unmatched. She was a fabulous example of a good wife and a loving mother. She will be missed, but her family is comforted knowing she's with Jesus and they will see her again.
Edie is preceded in death by her husband, CDR Ellis Douglas "Doug" Andrews USN (Ret.); son, Art Andrews; her parents, Hans and Margit Underset; sister, Ruth Eikevik; and brother, Dr. Hans Underset.
She is survived by her son, Dr. Alan Andrews of River Vale, NJ; daughter, Ann Andrews Fillingim (Larry) of Marietta, GA; daughter, Amy Andrews Cassibry (Kent) of Columbia, SC; 12 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; and 3 great great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held 11:30am until the Memorial Service at 12:30pm on Thursday, October 27, 2022, in Pleitz Chapel at First Baptist Church, with Dr. Dave Snyder officiating. Burial will follow at Barrancas National Cemetery.
Active Pallbearers will be Edie's grandsons: Scott Andrews, Andrew Fillingim, Brian Fillingim, Tyler Andrews, Michael Cassibry, and John Cassibry.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Samaritan Hands, First Baptist Church, 500 N. Palafox St., Pensacola, FL 32501.
