Edith Simmons "Edie Carol" Hannah, 73, of Pensacola passed away Monday, December 23, 2013. She was born in Pensacola to William Elijah and Edith Bosso Simmons on December 15, 1940. She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Robert Hannah; her son, Robert "Robby" Hannah Jr., his wife Allison; brothers, Bill Simmons (Helen) and Tim Simmons; sister in law, Martha Hannah Sarasua (Armando) and three nieces. She was an active alumnus of Pensacola Catholic High School class of 1958 and a graduate of Florida State University with a BA in Elementary Education. She later earned a Masters degree in Special Education. In her 40 year teaching career she taught in Florida, Mississippi and Louisiana. She retired in Baton Rouge where she had lived for 27 years. In Baton Rouge she was active in the Red Shoes and the YMCA deepwater exercise group. After her return to Pensacola in 2009 she took great pleasure being in her new home, developing new friendships with the Bunco ladies of Birnam Woods and being in the company of her many cousins and old time friends. Edie was an avid reader and continued her search of knowledge by studying astronomy at PSC. Visitation will be from 5-7p.m. Friday, December 27, 2013 at Harper Morris Memorial Chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10am Saturday, December 28, 2013 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Msgr. Steve Bosso celebrant. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Joseph Medical Clinic, 131 W. Intendencia St., Pensacola, FL 32501.
