Edith Brown Ritz, 93 of Pensacola, FL died Saturday, April 20, 2013. Edith was born on January 11, 1920 in Pensacola, FL at the family home on La Rua St. She was baptized into the Catholic Church at Sacred Heart Church. She attended Sacred Heart School for 1st through 8th grades. She attended Pensacola High School and graduated in 1937. She then went to work at Woolworth's in 1938 in downtown Pensacola as a cashier. She married Anthony V. Ritz on October 12, 1939, at Sacred Heart. Their first son, William, was born December 10, 1940; their second son, Stephen, was born September 20, 1942. Edith began work at the Citizens and Peoples National Bank on South Palafox in 1952. She worked at C & P for 37 years in most of the departments and was head of Collections at retirement. She was very involved with her church, with the Sanctuary Society, and other ministries throughout her life. Edith was also very involved with her children, nieces, nephews and grandchildren. If someone was in need, then she was there. Her husband passed away in 1984. Edith was invited to join the Pilot Club International, Pensacola Chapter, where she was active in professional development and the charitable activities of Pilot. She made a number of quilts for Pilot Breakfast raffles and helped serve many pancakes at the annual fund raiser. In addition to Pilot Club, she became one of the early lady members of the Sacred Heart Saint Vincent de Paul Society. Edith worked at the De Soto St. Saint Vincent Thrift Store (now at 1417 W. Cervantes) where she helped organize the food pantry and aid to poor. She went many times to the clients' houses to see how Saint Vincent de Paul could help the family. She also worked at the Sacred Heart Church with Saint Vincent de Paul for those who came to the church for help. Until her 92nd year, she was active with St. Vincent de Paul. Edith is preceded in death by her parents, Joseph P. and Ethel Bobe Brown; her brothers, Joseph (Allene) Brown, Richard (Sue) Brown, Robert {Bobby}(Mabel) Brown; her sister, Marion (Jimmy) Muller; her husband, Anthony V. Ritz; and nephew, Joseph Brown. Survivors include her sons, William A. (Alma) Ritz and Stephen F. (Louise) Ritz; her grandchildren, Michael F. Ritz, Mark A. Ritz, Paul D. (Dawn) Ritz, John R. (Sandra) Ritz, David A. (Kristina) Ritz, Aaron V. (Katinka) Ritz, Jennifer (Christopher) Jones, Jessica (John) Poltrock; many great and great-great grandchildren; her nieces and nephews: Judy (Frank) Gomez, Linda Petty, Barbara (Stanley) Phillips, Clair (Fred) Pasqualloni, Michael (Barbara) Brown, Pat Miller, Babbs (Jerry) Struck, Robert Brown, Jr., and many more cousins, great nieces and great nephews. Visitation will be held 5:00 to 7:00 pm on Monday, April 22, 2013 at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart at 12th and Mallory. The Rosary will be prayed at 7:00 pm. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am on Tuesday, April 23, 2013, also at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart, with Monsignor Michael V. Reed celebrating. Entombment will follow at Holy Cross Mausoleum. Active Pallbearers will be Michael Ritz, Mark Ritz, Paul Ritz, John Ritz, David Ritz and Aaron Ritz. Honorary Pallbearers will be members of the Sacred Heart Saint Vincent de Paul Society.
